German industrialists have been on the wrong side of history for pretty much everything, is anyone really surprised at them now doing campaign ads for Trump?

@dbattistella Other people have pointed out that this is a generated image *but* it's based on a real one from ten years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/ail2z3/protester_uses_tennis_racket_to_return_gas/

The glasses face outfit is almost identical and the pose is quite similar to this one. Still, too perfect hands :_)

Anyway, great original picture, nothing to do with the France protests of 2026, but of 2016.

It's critically important to teach your kids a sport. It will come in handy one day.

This is a public service reminder:

Vampires are a myth.
Reports of shriveled citizens missing most of their blood are due to perfectly normal, completely mundane causes that just so happen to be above your security clearance.

We can't count on social media platforms controlled by MAGA billionaires to get out urgent alerts. As censorship of the No Kings Coalition Instagram account proved, Mark Zuckerberg's Meta may suspend or throttle accounts anytime.

On the #disinformation medium X, you can now read that Russia has won the Ukraine war (1).

Why? Because there is almost no moderation on the platform, so you can get to 100,000 followers on lying (2), even though the platform knows you are connecting via VPN (3) to conceal the fact that you are Chinese (4).

Choose #Mastodon.

Election Day is a week from tomorrow and early voting has started in much of the country. If you’ve been waiting to make a difference in the midterms, now is the time! https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/event/1024318/?utm_source=mastodon

#FossilePanik

whoever gave blender an mcp server needs a swift kick to the happysacks. these things are an absolute scourge on model sharing websites. fucked up geometry and completely unprintable in most cases.

As others have pointed out, there could be an influx of newcomers to the #Fediverse from #Brazil who are tired of #Meta 's latest shenanigans while meddling with politics.

If you see them, be friendly and welcoming, and under no circumstances start with "You are using the Fediverse wrong!"

I mean it. We have a serious "Reply Guy" problem around here, and we've already lost our big chance with Black Twitter. Let's not screw _this_ opportunity up, okay?

oh right so games/software can be decompiled/cloned at will and nobody did anything; but it takes 1 person trying to remove spyware from their TV OS and they got banned. I am not surprised obviously. Honestly if this is the type of stuff someone is using those tools go for it. They could disappear for all I care, but if the tools exist, show 'em. source: https://bsky.app/profile/esqueer.net/post/3myphka2iyk2o

I know AI has been flooding the zone with vulnerabilities and that your computer systems are all on fire. It is inconvenient but the unpaid open source volunteers also need to take care of their family and friends, do doctors appointments, handle leaking roof, get the winter wheels on their car, handle daily job responsibilities, proper rest and recovery, and similar things.

Just saying

@fatsam @cstross @vivtek the key to understanding is Dan Davies in "Lying For Money" about how frauds work: they spiral outwards, growing until they can't (if the perpetrators aren't caught first, but that doesn't apply here)

if it was market forces, the AI bubble would have gone by end 2024 (Zitron and I both gave that number)

fraud works differently. in this case it's a multipronged Enron where the imaginary book values of equity in private companies is load bearing for the holders cos they borrow against it.

it's increasingly obvious this stuff is squirrels and confetti but they can't get off this tiger

and there's *nothing* else to invest in

this is why i say stuff like "Great Depression 2"
