Looking at you @IslaIsReading ❤️

@pluralistic 's latest post https://pluralistic.net/2026/10/03/full-employment/#make-sarsaparilla

The cautious optimism about the opportunities in rebuilding post collapse, gave me the same feeling as reading the brilliant N. K. Jemisin's short story "Emergency Skin, " which you should read immediately!

Another absolute banger from @pluralistic on small p vs big P politics.

"[...] changing the system requires systemic work. Hell is other people because other people are great but it's so hard to get them to do things your way. That takes time and understanding and togetherness and arguing and forgiving."

I just want to add that, yes - that, but also brings joy and togetherness, and mutual aid, and community, and security, and the satisfaction of doing something worthwhile!

Now that Etsy got taken over by private equity and will inevitably get enshittified all the way to hell, where are people taking their stores?

Was aghast to find that my local library had neither #Enshittification nor The Reverse Centaur's Guide.

Requested both.

Earlier today I got a voicemail from a lovely Librarian that physical copies have been ordered for both as well as audio books added to Libby.

A news report said that a state of emergency was declared and that respirators and air purifiers will be distributed. Said to call 211 for details.

Called 211, was told the Red Cross was distributing them.
Called red cross, got transferred to a person who only had shelter locations and no idea what resources were available.

Well done following up, Journos! *sigh

#BoyleHeights fire.

[EDIT: got the help I needed. TYSM Fediverse! ❤️]

Plea for diagnosis.
Please help!

What are these black bumps on my fig's leaves?
Looks lime some kind of a beetle but they stay put in the same spot so maybe not?

Is there a way to get rid of them without poisoning the fruits?

I'm in zone 10a.
Boosts appreciated. 🙏

There should be a word for "distillation of a complex topic aided by metaphor."

Another absolutely brilliant distillation of our current situation (aided by metaphor) from @pluralistic

@pluralistic

Awhile back you rooted that you are looking for a Veterinarian around Burbank not yet enshittified by private equity.

Have you found one?

My dog is sick and I could really use a recommendation as I live in the same region.

Somewhere in Norway there's a metal band called "Radium Suppository."

I don't know if this is true; I just really, really want it to be.

The Take Your Pills app shares data with Google.
It encourages users to enter the actual medication they take and set reminders for when they take it.
Or as Google calls it, "wonderful personal information to sell to health insurance companies."

The Daily Pill app, available in the F-droid store does none of those shitty things and is just as useful.

I just finished the "Bringing back self-help" chapter of #Enshittification where you talk about the laughable anti-circumvention exemption, bringing up blind people.

That made me wonder, has @eff or others try leveraging the ADA in the US in the fight against anti-circumvention?

Seems an evident barrier to access.

Current state of my personal #Disenshittification journey.

I can't tell if this post was written by @pluralistic or Martin Hench 🤔

@pluralistic

It was spelled with an uppercase "I" back then.

Perhaps we ought to start referring to the un-enshitified and de-enshitified "regions" of the internet - like the #fediverse - as the Internet?
Nah, it won't catch on.

Years of reading @pluralistic's blog https://pluralistic.net/ and I just now noticed this!

First, I laughed.

Then it made me so very nostalgic for the pre-enshitification Internet! 😢

Just finished rereading @pluralistic 's masterpiece #walkaway
Even better and more relevant than the first time!
Still my favorite book by Cory.
Lmpopo still one of my favorite characters in all fiction.
