Happy #Caturday !

My first thought this morning is that the rot had travailed deeper then I thought.

But the truth is that the whole thing was built with rotten wood. Built on stolen land. built with forced labor.

Most, if not all, progress that seems to have been made was just a facade, nailed to a rotten frame. And that facade is falling away revealing the rotten structure underneath.

Now I feel the only way to make true progress is to either tear down the whole thing and rebuild from scratch, or to gut it and replace the frame rotten stud, by rotten stud.

But I fear that those in the best position to make real change will only try to continue to nail the facade of progress back onto the rotting structure.

Either way, the most vulnerable among us are now more vulnerable and in more danger. We need to do what we can to support them. We need strengthen and build mutual aid networks, and strengthen an build support communities.

We are going to need them.

We need to leverage any privilege that we have to support those that are the most vulnerable.

Apparently, according to the little one, I am a fun as Bluey's dad.

I'll take it!

Completed a smaller #LeatherWorking project this past weekend.
I was wanting something to hold two saddle stitched notebooks and a pen while leaving them easily/quickly accessible.
One notebook 8.5 x 5.5 in (A5-ish size), and another 5.5 x 4.25 in (A6-ish size)

Here is what I came up with, including a spot for a small straightedge.
I'm really liking the look of it.

The leather is undyed vegtan, the notebooks are both hand made, and the straightedge was repurposed from an old metal square.
I'm planning on cutting the straightedge down to match the width of the holder.

Had a weird recurring dream last night.

The network interfaces on the banana at work were down. 🍌 (4 x 1G rj45 ethernet ports)

Was able to get a console on it and get some information on ports 2 and 4 (MAC and configured IP) but the rest of the info was just a garbled mess. I'm thinking it was a hardware issue because the ports were just cat6 cables pushed into a banana. (and it was just a banana)

Anyway, still recovering from being sick over the weekend. Covid tests all coming out negative, but still planning on isolating and working from home this week. Also accidentally took DayQuil instead of NyQuil before going to bed last night, so not too surprised that dreams are kind of funky right now.

Also the meta on fedi has been kinda disappointing the past few days. (might post some thoughts on that later)

Hope everyone is able to set some time aside to take care of themselves. And remember to try and be kind, and not be dismissive, to people going through tough times. And give people a little leeway on how they express themselves when they are in distress, or actively being attacked.

Root cause analysis:

#CrowdStrike integrated "AI technology" into its product to identify and close security vulnerabilities.

CrowdStrikeAI™️ found that the most vulnerable component was Windows.

CrowdStrikeAI™️ closed that vulnerability.

:boostRequest: Boosts Welcome! :boostRequest:

Hey y’all! My name is Joey, and yes I picked it myself ;)
Named after my late father, Joseph. I am a trans man born and raised just outside of St. Louis looking to get top surgery.

Growing up in Missouri as a trans person was not easy but I’ve learned to find joy in my community and animals. I have a dog and two cats of my own, while also caring for many of the street cats that find their way to my doorstep! I enjoy fun nights out with my friends, Pokémon, and collecting baseball cards. On a night in you might catch me bingeing a new Netflix show or organizing my vinyls. I’m usually bopping around my room to Paramore or Taylor Swift!

Top Surgery for me isn’t just life changing, but life saving. It’s being able to walk outside without an oversized hoodie on in 90 degree weather, exercise, and actually look at myself in the mirror. Right now I can’t find any clothing that makes me feel comfortable. With two back surgeries under my belt, binding is no longer an option. Top surgery would let me dress and experience the world how I have always felt on the inside without having to compromise my health. It would also allow me to exist in public with out experiencing fear or severe anxiety.
Body Dysphoria is just the icing on this mental illness cake and being able to tackle that would be a self care euphoria.

Thank you, with all my heart, for any and all contributions. This is the next step for me to allow myself to become the best and most uninhibited version of me!

For those educated outside of the US, when are you required to start leaning a second/foreign language in your education, and how many years are you required to take secondary/foreign language classes?

For context, where/when I was in school in the US, no foreign language classes were even available in grade school (5-14yo) and only 2 years required in highschool (15-18yo), with a max of 4 years available. (I did 2 years)

Higher education can be extremely expensive here, and unless it is required for their major, many do not continue foreign language classes after highschool.
