"Dear Matthias, this color was labeled dark green by the AI. For real, I wondered myself what kind of dark green this was supposed to be"

So I'm buying a fountain pen at Kleinanzeigen (German craigslist), like I'm wont to do. The (badly lit) picture and the headline promise me a green pen. And I do receive this pen, but as it turns out, it's actually not green at all! How is that possible? Okay, the picture was badly lit, but why would anyone in their right mind still call this thing green? So I asked the seller, and, lo and behold, they answered: ...

Oh no. Armin Ronacher is one of _them_.

I must learn OpenBSD! This seems to be what I always wanted? @drew

@db that is cool!

I wrote about the OpenAI-Hugging Face hack following my conversation on The Data Fix this week - more on how it happened, what it means, and why I still see "stochastic flocks" rather than "artificial hiveminds" — and a link to our conversation. https://mail.cyberneticforests.com/models-dont-go-rogue/

@gerrymcgovern Another good one in the vicinity that I bookmarked (albeit not by you)

@gerrymcgovern Just realized that this one article I once bookmarked because it resonated with me was written by you:

Thanks, and if you have more in this vein, happy to read that.

My own podcatcher is still really rudimentary, and I do hesitate to change that actually, because I want to keep it malleable and also a bit frugal.

Still, I would be happy to hear from you: is this something you might be interested in? How are you listening to podcasts, if at all?

I had looked into a TUI program called castero, but I realized that a
TUI is actually more restricting than liberating me, with all its
predefined views that I have to switch between. Besides, castero also
wanted to act as a player, and I didn't need nor want that, because
there's better software around for playing, and like I said, I am using a dedicated device for that anyway.

Since September 1st, I've been working on my own "podcatcher", a software for subscribing to podcasts and managing episodes. For playback, I am using a dedicated device that doesn't have internet connectivity (see photo).

Today I switched the repository for my podcatcher from private to public. The code licensed under GPLv3. See https://git.sr.ht/~mbuechse/dtipod

The name dtipod refers to "do_the_internet.sh", the idea that, instead of being "always on", you use a shell script a few times a day (or even just once) to sync you up with the internet.
