spot-on article by Philip Sherburne on the misdirected tech bro search to "solve" personalized (generative) music:

https://futurismrestated.substack.com/p/fr-192-infinite-personalized-music

"The idea that music is something that needs to be solved is absurd, ridiculous; it deserves ridicule. [...] Music is a form of communication. [T]he emotion that arose in the nexus between the artist, their creation, and you is the whole point of the thing."

I always thought the phrase "Better Living Through Chemistry" was originally an album title, but Big Pharma was using a variant of it since 1935.

"Better Things for Better Living
Through Chemistry"

Here's DuPont getting really fucking classy with it:

Some news outlets are suggesting colanders, along with other homebrew hacks, for those who couldn't buy safe eclipse glasses in time.

If you're going to use a colander (or any pinhole device) be sure to look at the projected sun on the ground, not directly through the hole.

@DemocracyClub are you looking for additional information on candidates who have previously run for office outside the UK? Or is that outside the scope of your project?

Just skipped over 24 hours' worth of unread toots, because I was more than 24h behind in reading.

Feeling overwhelmed, might delete later.

This sentence has 14 words:

"Daniel's donation to a political party is private and not part of Mullvad's mission."

They know exactly what they are doing.

I got a letter from the government
The other day
I opened it and read it
It said
You are eligible for free cancer screening

Skoda developed (with the University of Salford) an all-mechanical bicycle bell that bypasses active noise cancellation (ANC) in headphones.
https://www.skoda-storyboard.com/en/skoda-world/skoda-duobell-a-bicycle-bell-that-outsmarts-even-smart-headphones/
It's tuned to 750hz, which is a "blind spot" in most ANC headphone processing.
There is also a resonator for a higher frequency, and the hammer produces irregular strikes, confusing the ANC further, and making pedestrians look behind them faster.

Happy 303 Day!

There is a myth that when Roland released the TB-303 in 1981, they had no idea that some of the tone controls would later be used (by tweaking knobs while the sequencer was running) to make an 'Acid' sound.

A TB-303 advert from 1982 refers to these tone controls, and says: "to be varied at pleasure".

"At Pleasure".
THEY KNEW!

The "Leeds Guitar Goth" sound (of The Sisters Of Mercy etc) spawned a lot of soundalikes, not all of them from Leeds.

One band that really stood out musically was Cristabelle Children from Cardiff (Wales). Their name is sometimes misspelt as "Christabelle's Children".

This is one of their strongest songs, from a 1990 vinyl EP that they recorded in London:

They toured the UK with Christian Death.
It's a pity they weren't more successful.
