I never post on here, but I am once again trying to get my city to get rid of ALPR cameras. They've committed to ditching Flock (yay!) but now the chief of police already has a quote from Axon (boo!)

If you'd like to make sure that the Sun Prairie Public Safety Committee hears something other than Axon provides in their ALPR Council Toolkit, make your voice heard! You have several options.

• Attend the meeting. 7pm, 300 E Main St, Sun Prairie, WI, 2nd floor council chambers. When you arrive, make sure to let the committee chair know you want to speak.

• Email. You can send your written comments to sschmidt@cityofsunprairie.com

• Jotform. You can submit comments up until 30 minutes before the meeting via https://cityofsunprairie.com/Comments/publicsafetycommittee

You do not have to be a resident of Sun Prairie to do any of these.

Did we learn anything here tonight? #Monsterdon

Surprisingly flammable for a stone building #Monsterdon

A sorcerer's convention? Some kind of...magic gathering? #Monsterdon

And then the Russian "weather satellite" went back to its home planet.

Note: The Russian "weather satellite" died on the way back to its home planet. #Monsterdon

What would the trucks do if they didn't have the mobile gun platform to threaten people? Do the rest of the trucks even know Morse? #Monsterdon

The city of #SunPrairie #Wisconsin, a suburb of #Madison, is looking to double the size of its Flock ALPR camera install at the next Common Council meeting. This would expand the scope of 4th amendment violating mass surveillance and put more of our neighbors and visitors at risk of harassment or worse from the police. I've reached out to the city council and asked them to oppose this and consider removing the existing Flock cameras in the city.

Guess it's time to post the annual boardgame stats.

Finally updated my instance for the first time in...a while. Does anyone have a good #prometheus exporter config for #OpenTelemetry? I was relying on #statsd before.

What a difference good deck building (plus good planning and decent luck) makes on Midnight Masks. The first time I tried this, I got a single cultist. This time, in spite of a pretty sub-optimal takedown of The Masked Hunter (well, minus the part where I used dynamite to soften him up first - that was optimal), I managed four. I was even able to snag Ruth Turner using her Evade trigger, thanks to Daisy comboing Mind Over Matter with an Encyclopedia and Hyperawareness to get her up to 9 intellect for the test.

I know the next scenario, The Devourer Below, is incredibly difficult. Rather than banging my head against it until I get a "good" result, I'm just going to give it a shot and see what happens. After that, it'll be on to Dunwich.

I'm not the first person to be annoyed about this, but I really wish likes and boosts synced between instances. I'm using FediFetcher to at least grab replies, so I'm not totally in the dark, but I have absolutely zero visibility into what's popular outside of my single-user instance without loading feeds from a more popular remote instance directly.

Finally got to play in a multiplayer game of John Company Second Edition. 1710 Scenario, so I still haven't played with deregulation. The company failed in the third turn.

Turn 1, failed military actions and trade attempts in Bombay left the company hurting for funds. This was turned around in the second turn, but no other successful trades in the country meant that it was treading water rather than increasing cash flow. The final round, two out of three trade attempts were successful and the company made just enough money to pay it's debts. Unfortunately, that was the moment the Prime Minister revealed his blackmail card and embezzled just enough for the company to require emergency loans and go insolvent.

Company failure had the Board of Directors ruled blameless, so we scored for shares. Between those, a single retired pensioner, and one luxury card, I managed to win the power contest and end up tied for most VP. The other player won the tie on window count 😡.

An excellent game, and one I'd like to try again with folks more familiar with the game. There wasn't too much bribery going on, and I imagine it's a lot more cutthroat when folks know how it all works.

Finally played #Cyberion. I'll need some more plays with the expansions before I can definitely say I like it more than #Onirim, but not having to shuffle a bunch certainly puts it in my good graces.

Finally, progress on fixing our state's gerrymander.

If you're running #MCC, #Umerica, #GammaWorld, or any other #MutantFuture #ttrpg, you're doing a disservice to yourself and your players if you're not liberally stealing from every single part of these plans for communicating the locations and dangers of nuclear waste meant to least for 10,000 years. Terrifying architecture, arcane symbology, nuclear priests, color changing cats with songs about them, enormous basalt pads. It's wild!

My first game was Peaks of Eternal Light, Pits of Eternal Darkness, a #CallOfCthulhu game put on by Don of Novus Ordo Seclorum. It was set in a fictional 1976 where the space program was wildly successful and a tenuous peace with Russia meant that there were human-occupied bases on the moon. The players were slated to go up in a month's time, when an injured member of a prior mission showed up unexpectedly with a warning just as we were tasked with going up immediately to investigate a communications outage from the base.

I played a Marine with expertise in mining equipment (living the Armageddon dream of being a miner trained to be an astronaut, rather than the other way around) tasked with protecting the crew and doing some light spying on the Soviets, alongside the general mission of figuring out what happened on the base. Of course, there were additional mission objectives, but I have to leave something to the imagination in case you ever end up playing this one 😉

Without giving too much more away, I spent the majority of the game blaming everything on a Soviet mind control device on the moon. I was more right than I ever really expected, and I was able to end the game with a heroic sacrifice in the name of God and America 🦅 🇺🇸 🚀

The game itself was excellent, and Don did a stellar job. One of the other players was constantly interrupting him with quips and jokes which killed the mood quite a bit, but he persevered through it. Lots of handouts made things easy to follow and keep track of (including some unexpected excerpts from various UN resolutions, which were a fun addition) and light and sound effects set the tone (as much as could be done with the interruptions, anyway). I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I've been quiet on here aside from making excuses about not playing my #solotober2023 games (and tonight will probably be another one of those nights - it's been a long day of adulting), so let's make this more positive with some write ups from #GameHoleCon

The Pima Air & Space Museum is really dang cool. So cool, in fact, that we're going back again tomorrow. We still have three whole hangars to explore!
