People will be like "America has no safety net" but that's your fault for not fucking up badly enough to sell the movie rights. Reach for the sky, do something truly absurd, and after you crash and burn you shall emerge from prison swathed in glory and a fair sum of cash.

My generation of software developer worships the feeling of getting to control what other people's computer screens look like, and I think they can't will themselves to imagine that power slipping away.

If you're using claude to make websites you're still missing the boat. When people are using claude, it's to avoid having to use websites. You're building what's already archaic.

I do not need workstation security policies appropriate for a san francisco wework, my dude. There's nobody around but chickens

I think the lock screen on your work laptop should always say "Instead of doing work, let's type in our fucking password again, asshole!"

Claude is down and I am typing with my hands like a fucking cave man

Does everybody's cat make a litter box shit-burying gesture when they want to complain to you that something is smelly?

It's fun to theorize but I don't believe SimCity has real impact on anyone's worldview. For one thing, I suspect pretty much nobody thinks about town planning at all, so there are not many opinions to skew.

It really says something that when EU cookie laws required webmasters to choose between a popup that turns their site into dogshit and giving up their data selling, 100% of websites chose dogshit

I purchased something by phone call this morning because the website didn't work. Between call quality issues and a thick accent I could barely hear anything, but I got several questions answered and an order successfully placed, none of which the website was able to accomplish

Why in the name of god do not all the applications on macos use the same border radius for their window corners? I thought this was supposed to be the OS without any OCD triggers

Science fiction is almost entirely things that absolutely 100% can't happen. It's just a particular set of things nerds like

https://spacey.space/@nyrath/117283353851792616 But Clarke himself wrote novels in which things move faster than light

Here's an article about why AI's copyright violation is bad for authors (and here's a link to the paywall-free bootleg of the article)

Regardless of the fueling mechanism, a car is a disposable product. It comes with some number of miles in it (maybe 300k at the outset), you drive those miles, then you throw it out.

"I never thought leopards would pirate MY content" - everybody who generously seeded the leopard to leopard distribution network

We all know it is fundamentally impossible to run a service like youtube fully within the bounds of the law; what's required of them in practice is to show a good faith effort

I really doubt that technical arguments are going to push anybody one way or another on LLMs and copyright. At some point Congress is going to update the letter of the law to fit the spirit, and the spirit is no normal person will ever view a chatbot as a copy of its inputs. If it can reproduce its inputs verbatim, all that will be required of a vendor is to be demonstrating they're continually working to try to prevent that, e.g. how youtube whack-a-moles all manner of copyright violation

I always heard the making fun of religion trope that says they're obsessed with "sinful thoughts" and I don't know now where that ever came from. The Lutherans, at least, are pretty clear that sin resides in 1. things we have done; 2. things we have left undone.

It's part of why I'm fed up with the web tech ecosystem that revolves around companies for which the goal is maximizing time spent in-app, it's the entire opposite of my ethos
