If you can't share or release something in an inclusive and accessible way, it's okay to not share or release it at all.
Some people will vehemently disagree with this. They'll say things like, "But then nobody wins," missing the powerful point that nobody loses either.
Thanks to @jessamyn 's excellent posts, I have seen several people express interest in starting a library tech drop in at their local library, which is a fantastic idea. Libraries are all about people helping people! I wanted to share a thread with a few tips for people looking to start a meetup/help group at their library.
First, check to make sure a thing like that doesn't already exist - and if it does, don't think "they have it covered" - go help! Programs like this always need more people. If they do have one already, think about how you might help get the word out, it's so hard to get the message out about these things to people who need them. (1/4)

nobody knows what approval looks like but it involves getting cawed at

If you're not in one of the countries where eBay is legally required to notify you of your right to opt out of your data being used for AI training (European Economic Area, U.K., Switzerland, perhaps others), then eBay probably sent you a different email which doesn't mention that you can opt out.
However, you still can, at this page:

It was a joy getting to watch @nazhamid put this site together.
In just the time we were building it, the story around photo apps and AI/vibed apps has shifted so much. We hope the new story and care that goes into our work sets us apart.
My website has a new look, the first major redesign since 2013. Kelsey Scherer, Scott Kellum (@scott) and Roel Nieskens (@pixelambacht) brought back some of the spirit of my original site, including the black, pale yellow, and white color scheme and the spinning starburst on the logo. It already feels like home to me.
Visit marksimonson.com today. And while you’re there, you can read about the new design in my Notebook: https://marksimonson.com/notebook/view/new-site-design
📣 I’m looking for a new role. Ideally, as a Staff+ Designer, but I’ll consider design leadership roles, too. I’m a specialist in #designSystems and #designOps—would love to remain in this space, but open to generalist, 0→1 product design as well.
I have:
→ 18+ years across design and front-end roles
→ co-founded and led a successful observability SaaS
More information on my personal website. Boosts and intros to kind folks are very welcome!
Ended up going with Activ Grotesk from Dalton Maag for the new font on MVC. Adios Google Fonts.
Still have some tweaking to do (like the nav), but going to sit with it for a bit. I’m using it everywhere and it’s really versatile.
Everything else I tried was either too geometric, or the numbers weren’t great. It also has just the right amount of warmth to it that I liked.
I strongly suspect that many of the most interesting things about artificial “consciousness” were said decades ago, and we should be reading those instead of the very boring nonsense getting peddled today. https://aworkinglibrary.com/reading/he-she-and-it
It’s my first time seeing this 1482 edition of Ptolemy’s Cosmography with stunning hand-coloring. I think it’s the prettiest blue I’ve ever seen in a book illustration. https://id.lib.harvard.edu/alma/990025422690203941/catalog

Not only did @ingrid’s updated Networks of New York arrive, unblemished by weather because the postie hid it between our doors, it’s wrapped in such nice paper that even peeling the packing tape off left the paper mostly intact.
This book is both the nerdiest book I own, and one of the delights of my library. (It has MANHOLE COVER PHOTOS!)
James invited me to contribute to Midnight Radio but as I'm less nocturnal and more crepuscular, this mix is the feel of being awake before dawn as the days get shorter and colder. I asked him to estrange and defamiliarize some old familiar faves and boy, he delivered. Come for the spectral snippets of the National and Weakerthans, stay for the strung-out Skinny Puppy.
During my time at Turing we co-designed a survey to understand what patients' biggest concerns for fairness are when it comes to deployments of 'AI' in healthcare/clinical settings. The results are now out:
We found that the biggest concerns for negatively impacting fairness were a lack of human supervision, lack of clinician input and pre-existing healthcare-biases. Accessibility and the loss of human empathy emerged as extra themes.
