I've had some pretty low opinions of politicians in my time, but I'd just like to say that not a single one of them deserved what's been inflicted on Helen Haines.

The boy cats woke me up at dawn for no particular reason. Now that I'm up they're both curled up asleep.

The days are warming up. The time of year when my cat Gus has to learn ( again) that sitting in my lap can get a bit too hot. For both of us.

Please take a moment to consider the perfection of this rose.

#Adelaide peeps: where can I buy a good old fashioned pair of rubber thongs for summer?

So, I had to go out in the dark and rescue my potted plants from the LARGE HAIL and I thought, "Is this the sudden, destructive storm descending upon us?", but it wasn't. All over in a few minutes. #Adelaide I guess the sudden, tree-destroying storm could still be on its way.

Anthropic is out with new nonsense about Claude (or the collection of models called Claude) deserving moral consideration and/or being able to feel distress, so my inbox is filling up with journos asking me to comment.

I've also got a day job, so here is a brief set of public comments on this:

This news story is bookmarked "animal attacks" but I think it should be "human stupidity".

I'm not making this up. The thunderstorm just switched on the fan of my induction cooker. ⛈️⚡️🔌🧲 🍳

Have to say I'm repulsed by news of a public and possibly televised execution in the USA. And the possibility that a woman victim of a botched execution may suffer another attempt to execute her. What does that tell us about the people in charge? That they are medieval era ghouls. My opinion of America gets lower with every passing day. ☹️ #uspol #America

Just realised why fb is so quiet. Long weekend. All the Stop the Choppers have gone away. #StopTheChop

If anyone gives AI models hands, we're finished. Oh, wait...

This is Horrifying. 356 sailors on the USS Abraham Lincoln attempted suicide during a 6 month deployment.

I'm not watching Grantchester ffs!

I'm not making this up. Got in my car, turned a corner and a guy sitting in his car stuck his hand out the window and tried to flag me down. Thinking something dire must be happening, I slowed and looked in my side mirror, whereupon the guy calls out "Your headlights are on!"
Yes, folks, my headlights were on. That's because I turned them on.
I wondered if I should have told him his driver's side window was open.
