Now I wonder how hard could it be to create a C++ ~~fediverse~~ mastodon library and some TUI for it...

It looks like I have to use a custom phanpy build?

I am sad.

Apparently hometown uses the same system. 🤔

Can anyone recommend me self-hostable #fediverse web client that I can use with SSO and that supports @gotosocial 's local-only posts?

Pinafore seems to now be unmaintained.

Bonus points if that something gets me LaTeX equations rendered.

EDIT: apparently federated: false was deprecated as hinted to at https://codeberg.org/superseriousbusiness/gotosocial/issues/3309 ?

This reminds me of the time when we didn't have 3000 rigid rules on how to make a typeface and everything didn't have to look almost exactly the same.

Sure, most fonts sucked but it was fun.

I haven't heard via other sources, and this is in German so I'm not exactly certain where date comes from.

Are we in for yet another round of the same BS again?

Anyone at @Tutanota or @mullvadnet know better, you're usually among the first to let me know?

A friend outside fediverse shared this absolute piece of perfection to me.

Coffee break thoughts about EU Open Source Policy Summit.

Dirk Schrödter seems to get it.

“We export public money, and import long-term dependency”

But the biggest thing I've gathered is, that while some people seem to be well in-know, there are plenty of those whose idea is "let's break how open source works in order to support open source".

I understand that it might be difficult for private industry people to grok how basically anarchistic systems like FOSS function, but the goal definitely for a lot of us working there is *not* to centralise it.

Fortunately there seems to be a good bunch of people who have actually worked with FOSS, and good bunch who have done their research as well.

In general, the direction for FOSS policy seems good to me. But I think FOSS people need to be on their toes in the future, as it is gaining more interest from EU and large organisations in general. Not all of the players are as friendly as they would first seem.

This might be worth hitting translate on.

This legend started playing in my head at random and I think it is a pretty apt description of current tech industry, if you just swap "Steampunk" with "AI" and "ebay" with "investors".

@Saramo Also, pahoittelut jos tää tulee kahdesti. Syytän osaksi junainternettiä, osaksi itteeni, ja osaksi sitä ettei mastodoni anna mun poistaa duplikaattia.

Hei, mikä on oikeasti tapa osallistua vasemmistoliiton politiikkaan?

I like the Internet where anyone can self-host whatever from e-mail to their own web services. Not to even mention maintaining open-source software, what a lot of us do on our free time.

All of it is getting significantly harder and more expensive because of LLM spam and scraper traffic.
