Every time there has been a negotiation and even an agreement with Iran it has been sabotaged by the United States. Trump is the epitome of bad faith negotiation. Trump only wants complete defeat.
So there will be no ceasefire, no peace agreement. The war will resume in full shortly.

Thus is so disappointing. Carney knows full well that the US has systematically sabotaged any attempt to get Iran to agree to winding down its military nuclear program. He also knows full well that Israel has nuclear weapons and has never joined the Non-proliferation treaty. And he's knows full well that this is an unlawful attack.

>In a letter to investors from earlier this year, Karp quoted a political scientist to say that the “rise of the West was not made possible ‘by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion… but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence.'”

Cory Doctorow came to town today, on his Enshittification Tour (https://pluralistic.net/2025/09/30/enshittification-tour/).. Many ideas very eloquently expressed. One takeaway: yes, the tech world is dominated by horrible people like Elon Musk, but the problem is the policies (or lack thereof) that allow the Elon Musks to rise. "There's an Elon Musk-shape hole in our policies".

Good for the EU. And something that #Canada also needs to get moving on IMO. We need to become independent of American corporations.

All politics is local. The far right organizes to try to take over the public school board in Calgary while steadfastly denying that they are doing so.

""Iran's nuclear program has long been a cause of grave concern, and its missile attacks across Israel threaten regional peace," Carney said." No, Mr. Carney, this was started by a unilateral attack by Israel. And please stop talking rubbish about "negotiated solutions". Iran was negotiating with the Americans when Israel attacked. And by the way, Israel has nuclear weapons.

"Two centuries ago, in 1825, the French state imposed a tribute on Haiti to compensate slave owners for their loss of property. This debt, which the fragile Haitian state had to struggle to repay until the 1950s, heavily crippled the country’s development, and it is, today, one of the poorest in the world."

More and more frequently the idea returns to my head that just as the 20th century begins after the crisis and collapse of the 19th. century world order with the Great War in Europe, the 21st century will only begin after the 20th. century collapses in a similar crisis. Naomi Klein's apocalyptic essay here makes me feel that crisis is getting very close.
