Well, being in Italy makes it tricky to be certain, but I *think* yesterday's power cut at home was WPD fixing the transformer, and the very limited logging I can access from here suggests we're now getting 240v ish.

Also, I have the phone number of the lovely engineer who both apologised for how long it's all taken, and pre-approved me for a full export limit (just in time for winter, but still...)

So the power saga looks to be almost over, and mostly sorted by leaving the country ;-)

Despite being in the process of shutting MyCo, *and* the fact that I "verified my identity" as Director of said company like a week ago, I've now got a snotty letter complaining that I somehow missed the stop of verifying the same identity, for the same company, in my "Person With Significant Control" guise.

Seriously, how can ukgov manage to implement an idea so, so badly?

Don't be fooled by this packet. There is a typo in the phrase "mild hot!", which should actually read "face meltingly hot"

WPD have collected their voltage logger (again) so now we wait. Today's guy was surprised that it was overvoltage rather than under (making him unique in WPD), but I chatted long enough with him to pique his interests - so he's now off to take some readings from neighbouring houses :)

I'm all for using the emergency alert system to ask people to stop setting fire to everything, and it's awesome that they sent it in Welsh.

But I'm less happy they *only* sent it in Welsh (and I'm pretty sure that breaks the dual language rules)

Power finally off around 9:50, which isn't too bad. I can see men up at least two related poles so at least it's off for good reason.

Despite their reputation, the local WPD guys have always been incredibly friendly, efficient and helpful so aside from the general "no power" frustrations I'm sure they'll have me back on soon enough

Scheduled power cut today (which should result in mains at less than 250v, yay!), but as always it leaves you adrift.

Notification says 9am to 3pm but we still have power. I suspect it'll only be off for an hour or two, but no way to know which two hours and it leaves you in limbo all day...

Ooh, we made the news.

Wondered why I could smell smoke all day; looks like the hills are slightly on fire because of course they are.

Pro tip when going away for a week in a heat wave - make sure the freezer door has fully shut before you leave...

Best new garden kit of the year probably goes to the steam cleaner, whose long handled nozzle is proving the most effective tool for weeding the patio that I've ever found.

Not only cooks the leaves but soaks the roots in boiling water too - hopefully I can eradicate enough of the weeds to try resealing the damn thing!

First brew with the MoccaMaster, and I've discovered a design flaw - it makes such nice coffee, I've emptied the carafe and it's not even 11am.

Thanks to my much-cleverer-than-me followers, I have done some fuse swapping and concluded that the fuse is, in fact, fine and the problem is deeper in the machine.

Now I *could* try taking it apart, but I've spent the last couple of years trying to justify replacing it anyway... 🤔

Hmm, my venerable filter coffee machine seems to have died. I would check the fuse, but my multimeter has died in sympathy (at least that one is just a flat battery...)

Of course, if it *is* just the fuse in the coffee machine, that than asks a lot of questions about why it blew a fuse...

Hmm, my glasses have just fallen in half, which means I now have to grudgingly accept my wife was right about having spares.

I thought marketing consent had to be opt-in these days?

i.e. surely "Please tick this box if you would not like to receive offers by post from other trusted retailers" is against the rules?

A first world problem, but my entire day has been thrown off balance by the fancy bakery in town being unexpectedly shut this morning.

Where am I gonna find a cheese and marmite danish now?!

@revk might be something you know off the top of your head - how fussy is the SFP port on the FB2900?

It's not a technology I've ever used before, but everything I read seems to start with "ooh, no you have to have the *right* SFP transceiver for your device or it will refuse to talk to it", which seems a step backwards from, you know, Cat5 😉

Nice engineer back from the transformer; can see it's running high there too, although (typically) *just* within tolerance.

As such, it goes back to the office as a "take a longer look at this, with a voltage logger", rather than an immediate "fiddle with the taps" operation - but it does feel like something might actually change...

Have to confess to being impressed by our DNO; finally got around to reporting our excessive supply voltage (peaked at 257V today!), expecting ... well, not much.

Certainly didn't expect two trucks to turn up within the hour, and a nice chat with the engineer who (a) didn't just blame my solar, and (b) has wandered off to the transformer to kick it.

Might not be an instant fix because, of course, it's drifted down to 252V now, but if not it'll get a voltage logger and, later, a fix hopefully!
