@Tattie @thiswomanswerk Yep. Speaking from experience, white men are trained to isolate. Not just from those with less privileged though, it's really isolation from *everyone*. And yeah, that'll lead to anger, resentment, frustration, and generally hating the world.
We get taught that emotions are bad and need to be hidden -- although that doesn't necessarily apply to *all* emotions, anger and aggression range from forgivable to laudable depending on the situation, but the only person who should ever see you cry or even share so much as a hug is a romantic partner. *Maybe* a parent. Certainly not a friend.
And there's the whole fetishization of the myth of individualism, taught to take pride in doing as much as possible "by yourself" -- but of course that actually just means having a big salary and buying yourself a lot of expensive toys...neither of which happen without a whole society of other human labor but making that labor invisible is kind of the point.
Pretty sure even the white picket fence whites only suburbia is less about only wanting to interact with "your own kind" than it is about wanting to be around people who similarly value non-interaction. That's why you have a big yard instead of public parks; a home bar instead of going to a bar; a backyard pool instead of a community one; no transit because you shouldn't be going anywhere and CERTAINLY not *with other people*!
I think it might be related to the sterility of large corporate shit, just generally the culture of capitalism perhaps...but whatever it is our culture is *fucked*...been trying to dig myself out of some of this shit, but I still can't figure out why or how most of this crap even got into my head in the first place...
