Of course, if anyone wanted to make a holiday of it, the Peak District is quite nice at this time of year (recommend accommodation in Chesterfield likely to be cheaper than in the National Park).

Unlikely that anyone on here is local enough, but Baslow Theatre group, a small Derbyshire village group, have got two productions upcoming. Halloween (one night only, obviously) is a Ghost storytelling, 4 local-based stories with some history behind them, adult- and teen-suitable. And, in early February, a traditional family pantomime. I have taken part several times. This is a true community event - the idea with the panto is to make just enough profit to fund the following year's productions.

UK peeps - did you know you can eat or stay at the RNLI college in Poole? Spare capacity accommodation otherwise used for their trainees. https://rnli.org/rnli-college #RNLI #UK #Hotel #restaurant

https://youtu.be/4xrb-GYv7AE My usual level of silly song. Wondering whether to add this to my busking repertoire. #busking

Now decommissioned, thanks everyone. Leaving for posterity:

Hiya folks, please block & report

@RubyRelay@ruby.social for the usual, harassment, spam, and stalking

Hi @james , you have a ban-evading stalker on your instance, the only reason there are not more harassing posts is he was blocked quickly. #SockStalker brings up a history of his behavior (now-deleted accts)

EDIT: @CircuitScribe@zirk.us has been handled so thank you!! to @lexipenia and to everyone reporting!!

will glass coffins become popular?

Remains to be seen.

@oli

yes, 100%. i have had a troll stalking me (not only me) for about two years, burning through dozens of throwaway accounts. he harasses me & others in replies to people i interact with, gets banned, does it again. it's made me stop recommending people who are likely targets of harassment join this network, and that is a MAJOR failing here, unfortunately. lots of people who don't have a problem don't realize, too, & are just proud of this great alternative space...

Maybe some of my intelligent friends on here can help: If I try to entice some crows to eat, how many do I have to persuade before it becomes a tempted murder?

Busy listening to loads of musicians playing for fun and to raise money for the best music festival I know of - the Mansfield Folk Festival. Currently, the song is 'Dance the night away'. (Don't be fooled by the title of the festival, it's not just folk music) Already did a set of 4 songs myself on tenor uke.

Artists and creative types (of all sorts) - please don't hesitate to post what you're doing, even if you aren't that happy with it. Compared to the slop that passes for 'good enough', it's bound to be brilliant, and I, like many others, want proper creativity, not rehashed rubbish. #art #Artist #Music #MusicProduction #crocheting #knitting #creativity #Photography #cinema #theatre #amateurDramatics #drama #Writing

2023: I didn't run
2024: didn't run
2025: didn't run
2026: still don't run

(It's a running joke..)

Anyone in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, or nearby, who wants to join in with our flashmob next Saturday? #ManchesterRambler #Hucknall #Nottinghamshire #ukulele #protest Please boost this for reach: https://www.hucknallukes.com/home/song-competition

Told a joke on a Zoom meeting.
No-one laughed.
Turns out I am not even remotely funny.

Arrived at a hotel in Amiens where we shall be spending the next 6 nights. Having turned the heater down massively and opened the window (it was set to 27C!), found where the ensuite light switch was, and settled in, I switched the telly on. For some reason, all the programmes are in French! 😉

I turn 60 in November, so I am hoping to celebrate with some (mainly uke- playing) friends at the end of October in Paris. Hope to have people from France, Germany and the UK, common language English. Any other musicians are welcome to come and jam too. Provisional date is Sat Oct 25th. Anyone else who is a musician, or wants to come and sing, is welcome. It will be in a public space, so personal safety will be in your control. #ukelele #ukulele #Music #busking #acousticmusic #jam #Paris

But the most serious concern is that I NEVER travel with ALL my personal belongings anyway, on any one trip, most of them are at home! I know that's taking it literally, but WHY else would you include both the words 'all' and 'personal' in it otherwise? 2/2

I came across @firecams recently and started to wonder if ALERT California might have archived footage of registered carbon credits going up in smoke.

Sure enough, after a little digging I came across Forest Carbon Offset CAR1382, 97% of which was apparently consumed in the July 2024 Park Fire, which was documented by the Cohasset Hill camera.

How are natural disasters accounted for in carbon markets?

In some years wildfires release as much carbon as half of normal global emissions. Although biogenic emissions like fires have historically been held in balance by natural seuqestration, does that stand in a time when wildfires are more widepsread and devastating?

And when a forest that has been used as a carbon offset goes up in smoke, do the industries that have been buying their emissions credits from there just stop work?

People have actually spent a lot of time and effort trying to understand how to make large groups of people discuss things coherently. We have hundreds of years of parliamentary procedure. Twitter is basically the exact opposite of how these rules of order work. It turns out that, if you let a for-profit advertising company chair all human discourse and decide its rules of order, it produces incoherent bullshit. This should be a surprise to absolutely no one.
