@jsnell do you know of a good write up of how to transition kids off your Apple family as they age up and leave home? There’s so many parts to the family that share and I have no idea which parts to split when or if they all have to go at once.
Happy #marshmadness!
@ivory on my Mac just decided to stop updating a few hours ago. No errors or warnings or anything; just wouldn't pull data, even after a restart. Had to clear the account cache to kick it.
These pictures of slime mold (no keep reading!) are beautiful and alien and Suessian and colorful.

Fascinating: new archeology is making it clear that lots and lots of cities existing in the places we used to think were just empty spots between empires.

Today in “he was obviously lying then and everyone said so, except news orgs like the NYT which treated it as a both-sides controversy”

Work meeting today had to discuss some risks about the incoming administration. We were figuring out how much we push forward with what should be done versus holding back to mitigate potential blowback. I drew a line I expect to repeat in the coming years:
We don't do the fascists' work for them.
We pursue our goals, rendering public service per our charter. If they complain or order or decree otherwise, we deal with that when it comes. But we don’t self-censor.
The point of solar panels is not to ensure "solar profitability," but to make for a greener, better world. Its profitability is only justified insofar as it moves us towards that goal. If we want to switch to renewables, then sometimes we're going to have surplus, because of how renewables work. This is well known and discussed ad nauseam. If that makes power markets unstable, then the problem is with markets, not with there being too many solar panels.

@mia your link from the class notes to “CSS Systems" goes to Slideshare, which wouldn't show me anything after the first slide, and requires a paid account to download. But helpfully Clearleft still has the slides available: https://clearleft.s3.amazonaws.com/2008/cssSystems_notes_small.pdf Consider updating the link?
#marshmadness Newport Beach Back Bay, from a couple years back:
Backed the new @Iconfactory Kickstarter, then went back to watch the video. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/iconfactory/project-tapestry
Well darn, I liked Artifact:

@ivory whats going on with the percentages reported in this poll? Options 1 and 3 are apart by 1% but there’s only 14 votes cast, so that delta seems impossible. Web client shows both as 36%: https://mastodon.social/@eyuzwa/111672076378051368 #bugreport
This is your regular reminder that xScope from @Iconfactory is a must have for doing ay kind of design work. A nice little toolbox of stuff you didn't know you needed. I just pulled out the “Dimensions" tool and figured a tricky CSS padding issue in no time.
Looks like I wore the right shirt today! Congrats to all the fine folks at @Iconfactory! https://iconfactory.world/@Iconfactory/110973801020403430
Social media fragmentation & historical analogy.
'We are trained to look at the “fall” of Rome as something decisive, sudden, and violent, which completely changed the character of life for everyone involved. In reality the “fall” wasn’t because outside forces wanted to destroy Rome—they just wanted to control it. There was a slow and steady degradation of the services that the Empire could offer, and people [responded] to this with smaller and localised communities.'
