US threatens Europe over Starlink restrictions

Mafia-like tactics to get spectrum allocated exclusively to US companies. Given how it’s being weaponized by this administration against Ukraine, it’s the best example of why we shouldn’t let that happen.

Can’t believe that the MAGA president would let European companies get 100% of US spectrum

EU leaders express their dismay over Trump's "ridiculous diesel deal" (Dutch PM Jetten) with Putin, financing the Russian war effort.

[The EU is still importing LNG - end date 1 January 2027 - and nuclear fuel & uranium - no end date set - from Russia, btw]

It would also mean that much of the massive ongoing grid expansion and renewables buildout would be just to feed the new data centres. Grid operators association Netbeheer Nederland is right to ask government for tough choices on how many data centres to allow to be built, and where.

Assuming that they would actually get to build those data centres and get the connections, the new data centres would (at 90% capacity factor) use around 120 TWh/year, as much as all companies and households together use now.

Bizarre: Data centres have a total of 15 GW (15,000 MW) in queue for electricity connections in the Netherlands, grid operators just disclosed. That's roughly the current average national power use!

@Sustainable2050 This is what has been happening in Ireland. All the new wind and solar gets swallowed up by data centre expansion.

No, the drought isn't over yet. Despite some rain here in the Netherlands in recent weeks, the water flow in the Rhine is still in record low territory: around 600 m³/s, less than half of the normal flow in autumn. This keeps drawing groundwater away too.
