Yes. It’s not rocket science:
“Decrease wealth and income inequality.
Tax wealth more, tax work less. That's it.”
Thank you for the clarity! 😀🙏🏻

Timely. That fevered dream was one of the best parts from the movie. What would it take?
Unrelated, but today I heard that the no. 1 concern of ~80% of those surveyed by 🦊 is… go on, guess 😀 … govt corruption.

EDIT: it was this: https://maxsold.com/ , i found it in my text message history 🙃 (but had definitely seen it here)
thanks!! (boosts welcome)
Well well well, the Firmus plot thickens, in Tasmania they got a local council level approval then sought variations which would have needed an EPA (higher level) approval… treating Tasmanians like idiots: “EPA likely to have assessed project if proposed use was higher.” The EPA has now joined the appeals against:
“In its October 7 submission, seen by the ABC, the [EPA] board said it was originally told the generators would be used "just for emergency use in the event of a power failure", [not] during normal operation other than for scheduled weekly exercise runs of less than two hours, annual load tests, and utility outage events.
“The board said Firmus's recent appeal showed it planned on using the generators in more circumstances than it thought.
“That variation, if part of the original proposal, would likely have resulted in the Board making a different decision in relation to whether to assess the proposal," the board said.
"Seeking to enlarge the use of the diesel generators post-approval undermines the Board's determination and changes the environmental risk profile posed by the activity."
“It pointed out that if Firmus's appeal against the condition around generator use is upheld, it could allow it to subvert EPA processes it likely would have been subjected to "if the proposal had been accurately presented".”
Firmus also now changing its story on building additional power generation in Tassie.

Interesting, thoughtful, well-written long read. Glad I invested the time. Learnt heaps. Much to consider. Suspect the argument is compelling but need to read again. Along the way, many gems, including: “… it is hard to be sure what language models know, but it becomes plausible that artificial intelligence providers, seeing as they compete against academic mathematicians over prestige theorems, while also using session transcripts for training, are absorbing unpublished work and, in effect, “scooping” their clients.
“It is plausible that artificial intelligence will spawn new methods of automated reasoning. It’s also plausible that human creativity is being stolen for marketing purposes. It would be good to know which is which. Right now, we don’t [know]”

What? Stunning statistic, feel like this explains *a lot*: “There are now more full-time lobbyists influencing the EU’s digital policies, than there are MEPs in the European Parliament.‘“

This is potentially HUGE:
“Three of the five judges found in favour of a Hunter Valley residents' group, which halted the Mount Pleasant mine expansion last year in the New South Wales Court of Appeal.
“The High Court has agreed with that judgement and found the project's planning approval needed to take into account local effects from climate change caused by emissions from its coal exports.
“The case is expected to have national implications for the way fossil fuel project approvals take global emissions and local climate change impacts into account.”
ABC note they’re still working on the story. Easy prediction that it won’t stop at that Court.

Charming (not). Another industry led by sociopaths; “As well as fighting for the public’s right to know in the corridors of Brussels, we wanted to know what industry leaders thought about the trust problems they were encountering from the public as they scaled up their build-out. So we sent a reporter to the largest European industry conference, DataCloud in Cannes, to get a sense of what insider conversations were. What we heard was a roomful of industry leaders laughing as a company executive described concerned members of the public as “cave people” – “Citizens Against Virtually Everything”.” 🤬

I like this definition of inflation & the questions raised:
“As independent economist Chris Richardson told The Business last night:
“"Inflation is just too much money chasing too little stuff.
“"But no Reserve Bank, no government can wave a magic wand and make Australia produce more stuff overnight.
“"So the question becomes, who gets less money to spend? Who gets hit over the head? We have a system that uses interest rates to to basically hit borrowers over the head."”

“Advocacy group Data Centre Australia recently warned Australia risked losing data centre developments to neighbouring countries.

ICAC: Operation Rosny
Yes, I agree, I think it is & was a matter of ‘great public interest’ that the newly appointed Building Commissioner, David Chandler had a plan to deal with shonky building certifiers by alerting financers to who they were. But not in the way that Sharangan Maheswaran thinks: because he sees that as corruption. Astonishing that he can try & stand up this allegation before this hearing after all the evidence we’ve already been through.

Why can’t we fund our own research instead of going after another extractive industry? 🤔

ICAC: Operation Rosny
Both Dr Dwyer, Counsel Assisting & the Hon Fabian Gleeson, Asst Commissioner are continually attempting to focus Maheswaran on answering the actual questions asked of him. Maheswaran has become extremely discursive; he is constantly repeating himself, as if he has been rehearsing all night.
Maheswaran attempts to school Dwyer in how lawyers act (!!) & she suggests right back to him the way an ethical lawyer acts. AC has to intervene to stop Maheswaran in full discursive flight…
It appears that Maheswaran generated false evidence.
Now we have Maheswaran dangling a tasty little red herring… but no one will follow it… and after a lot of time-wasting when the same material is endlessly repeated, M backs down & accepts that physical remediation work was actually necessary.
Comfort stop required after all that. Time wasted = ? 25 minutes. Cost = 25 (or however many) minutes x $cost to ICAC for holding this hearing, plus?
The ‘evidence’ for the entire alleged ‘extortion attempt’ has just fallen in a hole. It was rubbish.
The $5m was a forward payment to be held in escrow for the necessary remediation works.
Paraphrasing: Maheswaran starts with:
It was a serious attempt to extort him.
Dwyer challenges: A serious attempt?
M: No not a serious attempt
D: A non-serious attempt then
M: No… blah blah fluff fluff… No not an extortion, a con.
Who is he kidding.
