OK, I've tried everything else. Let's see if I can #GetFediHired

I'm a very experienced #DataScientist with a background in #ResearchAndDevelopment. I used to be self-employed, but now I'm looking for something long-term.

During the First World War, the British Empire recruited soldiers from its subject peoples in Africa and India. Tolkien encountered such soldiers during his own military service. What he thought of using subject peoples like this can be inferred from the fact that in The Lord of the Rings, he ascribes the practice to Mordor.

What do you call a group of window cleaners who sing falsetto close harmony?

The Squeegees.

Lent and Ramadan begin on the same day this year.

"How tall is Darth Vader?"
"Six foot six."
"What's that in metres?"
"Darth Vader only uses Imperial units."

I have a suspicion that most moderators, being fallible humans like everybody else, are most sensitive to problems affecting their ingroup and correspondingly less sensitive to other people's problems. If that's the case, a possible solution might be for instances to try to diversify their moderation teams. @iftas

"What's your biggest weakness as a coder?"
"I'm prone to off-by-zero errors."
"Don't you mean 'off-by-one errors'?"
"Damn!"

"The Sea Devils" was the best #DoctorWho I've seen for a long time.
A developed story, real characterisation, no gimmicks (apart from one sword fight, which was basically Jon Pertwee and Roger Delgado having fun), and the moral themes were an integral part of the story, not a tacked-on sermon. The BBC should see from that how much better Doctor Who could be.

Police were called to an incident at the International Puzzle Convention today. Apparently there was no violence, but there was an exchange of crosswords.

I'm using my old blog to signal boost my #portfolio website, in the hope that search engines might actually start indexing it. Here's a post about the #cv page https://fantasticaldevices.blogspot.com/2025/07/my-portfolio-curriculum-vitae.html

I'd like to start a #DataScience #LinkExchange . If you have a data science website, reply with a link to it. Then look at the other sites in the thread for interesting things to link to.

Just noticed another plot black hole in #DoctorWho "Lucky Day". Conrad the Catfish seemed absolutely convinced that Ruby was lying about aliens - but if she had been, she'd never have fallen for his plot.

Leo XIV spent much of his ministry in Peru, so...
