I think I should be allowed to write things that require you to use a companion story lore wiki to understand them

Losing my mind over the official 2026 class photo of the Swiss Federal Council including the conditions of its own production.

Fun fact for an embarrassingly long time we were not aware that ossification is actually a word. And thus through a series of unfortunate hoops were led to believe it was a term derived from the name of the OSI model

It's a weird word. I think we've encountered it naturally like. Once. As an adult? I can't recall if we've ever seen it used in any recreational reading where the misunderstanding we had wasn't contextually reasonable

I think telling someone "you'll have to speak to my attorney" and then not actually having a lawyer is a power move

This was really good, highly recommend reading https://pointieststick.com/2026/09/23/kde-and-ai-and-you-and-me/

There's something weird to me about ActivityPub people posting on Bluesky (which I admit I dislike more than Twitter because at least that we all acknowledged was trash), Bluesky is literally the same thing but now having staff that's transphobic and refuses to moderate is somehow fine and you keep using it? Okay.

I do vaguely think the Steam Frame should've gone OLED once it became clear it couldn't hit the low price point with the current market conditions, I think it just offers so much value for VR to have that as an option.

Though I suppose we'll see; I only recently learned that the limited passthrough capabilities have an addon module you can get to basically resolve it (though perspective correction I think still needs software side support). I'm a little confused by that situation overall given that the Index had these features and though it's still tagged as experimental does support perspective corrected 3D passthrough

Really though we just have to get to a VR scene that isn't proprietary on all companies. Nobody is buying a PSVR, a PSVR2, a Valve Index, a Steam Frame, a Meta Quest 3, and Apple Vision Pro, a Galaxy XR, a Pimax Air.

Like I thought we'd basically be at a sort of minimal standard by now with some kind of basic USB based interface even if it had some limitations but if anything that story is worse than ever? The latest solutions are wholly wireless and streaming based which perhaps works better than I'd have assumed (we have only ever had the Index) but seems infinitely worse to not also support a non-wireless and cross compatible option

Creatures of fedi I have really really tragic news to announce: they ruined the Boost website. It's horrifying now. Everything is over I'm sorry to announce, society is finished.

I can't read nitrile without briefly misreading it as nilered

I hate how in this day and age "just whack it" is generally my only real troubleshooting step on any mechanical appliance with moving parts. And it's even more unsettling how often this kind of works.

Sadly it has not yet worked on pur combi oven which inexplicably becomes rattly only when using the oven, with it heated, and food in it. Pretty sure there's zero hope for that outside probably replacing what's likely a perfectly fine combi oven but man is that annoying

Why are squeeze packets of yoghurt and chocolate milk seen as exclusively children's products in the U.S. and meanwhile my office in the Netherlands consumes more Chocomel than fits in the fridge and squeezable yoghurt is like a common quick meal?

We finally ordered a DJ controller for one of our birthdays; anyone have any tips and suggestions? (We went with the Numark Midtrack Go based mostly on vibes)

In case you're curious, I followed a Wikipedia link and it took me to an archived page of "http://aa.usno.navy.mil/faq/docs/rs_algor.php"

Which looks like this and contains BASIC programs you can get to do some astronomical calculations

That's good for them, I hope they keep remembering to do that

If AI is so good how come I still don't have my Xeon Phi card working

Oh heck this looks cool, maybe I'll finally actually learn F# it looks cute https://fable.io/

I'm totally willing to believe there's a legitimate reason for this I'm just curious because I thought basically every distro had that disabled on their default shipped kernel

Why on earth is /dev/mem still enabled on Ubuntu?

Wee woo
