Three weeks away from the US election, and stress and tension are persistent. I have one last batch of postcards to voters still to go, and they haven't arrived yet. I'm working every day until the mailing deadline, and have church and babysitting in the evenings, so it's going to be a rush to get them done on time. Tomorrow there is a voting rally that I've been wanting to attend, but there was nobody to cover for me at work, until now, when a last-minute colleague became available, so I'm relieved to be free to participate. The overload of increasingly horrific and oppressively dark news items have been consuming my attention and tying my stomach in knots. Living in this state of constant turmoil and distress is exhausting.
This week, the #JukeboxFridayNight theme was Songs of Peace and Calm. I was more grateful than I can express for that thematic choice. I needed exactly music of this healing and calming nature in my life right now. I've been thirstily drinking in these songs today. I can feel them washing over me, steadying my nerves, quieting my tumultuous mind.
