Part of the trouble in a standard class is that students face you so you can't see what's on their laptop screens unless you stand at the back of the classroom, ALL THE TIME.
In a computer room, the computers are on tables around the classroom walls and on a large centre table in the middle of the room. Teachers can see every screen as they walk around.
Yes. And yes. And yes.
As a teacher (12-18yr students) I can say resoundingly they are overused and misused. Kids are using AI for their responses to written work under our noses. They can't write effectively or speedily with with pens anymore for assessments, tests and exams. They're wasting time on websites instead of researching.
I would advise/advocate for a return to computer rooms or classrooms with accessible bookable trolley banks of laptops for specific research situations. These can be supervised more easily. Kids are assigned a numered laptop from a trolley bank and use that specific one on each occasion (so damage or misuse can be tracked).
AI is becoming a major problem in education.
My daughter teaches at uni and has reported misuse there amongst undergrads too.
My husb and i are no longer going to eat out on a Sunday.
15% surcharges are killing us.
Presumably to pay Sunday wages ???
Yet no other services do this on a Sunday: train tickets don't go up in price on a Sunday. Nor do cinema tickets, groceries, clothes, jewellery, shoes, concerts, sports events... Gas, water, electricity don't go up 15% on Sundays. Yet presumably the workers at those venues are all paid Sunday rates ? Businesses have to cover the extra wage costs ?
So why are just restaurants ripping us off so royally on Sundays?
Book shredding.
Makes me feel physically sick seeing this.

This article is really really important and Albanese should not only heed this advice but take him up on the offer to have closer trade deals with Canada.
Albanese is not wise to be so uncritical of everything USA is doing. Situations change. The loyalty and allegiance of yesteryear is no longer appropriate. Our stance needs to evolve and change with the times.
Albo needs more political spine and foresight and sense of loyalty to Aussies, not Trump.
