Sen. Elizabeth Warren opposes $1.65 BILLION merger of Kroger and Giant Eagle. It could lead to near monopoly in several states.
FTC approval is necessary. Previously Kroger tried to acquire a major grocer, Albertsons, on the west coast. FTC shut that merger down in 2024.
It's a different FTC now.

"Overwhelmed" US postal worker in Utah threw away 300 mail ballots and other mail during the recent primary.
Due to demanding work loads, 12-14 hour days up to 6-7 days a week, the postal service has a very high turnover rate. Some positions see a 50% or more turnover in the first year.

EPA allows Bayer to choose the dicamba regulations that it prefers. Besides posing dangers to human health, dicamba tends to drift away from targeted fields. It affects crops and trees and its "drift" has caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damages to crops and forestry. Despite this crisis, EPA is allowing Bayer to regulate itself.

Abolish the DMV in a state with 36 MILLION cars on the road? One of the dumbest proposls I have heard from would be CA governor and former Fox News star Steve Hilton.
Many, if not most, of the functions of the DMV can already be done online or at a kiosk. The pandemic forced the DMV to streamline. A recent license renewal with a vision check was easy, even pleasant. Clerks seem to be under less stress and attentive to good customer service.
Hilton says that he wants towns and cities that are strapped for cash to take on some activities that must be done in person. Driver's road tests, vision checks would be privatized. Currently there is no additional charge for road tests and vision checks.
I hope CA voters are savvy enough to not elect a Fox News tech bro dipshit with no applicable administrative experience to run our state.

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

Recently I decided to help organize an existing small library at our community center. It's been neglected for years, and is overrun with certain genres of fiction, mainly romance and action novels. There is a good reprsentation of other genres too. Space is limited, and I need to cull books to create room for new donations.
Looking for advice on how to purge books while creating balance, and maintaining an adequate selection for all readers.
I'm stumped. Suggestions?
