Jumping in with this one! Does anyone else hear a chorus of muppets at the end?

Siouxsie was one of the original Bromley contingent of punks and can be seen in the background of the notorious Sex Pistols interview where they - gasp! - swore on live tv. To be fair, the lecherous Bill Grundy really was a dirty old fucker.
As with just about everyone on that scene she didn’t hesitate to form a band and quickly established a unique sound that was darker and more sophisticated than contemporary punk thrash.

Interesting to compare and contrast this album with Talk, Talk, Talk by The Psychedelic Furs that the random generator gave me yesterday. Both albums are from 1981, both described as Post Punk but listening to them one after the other shows that they are very different in tone and feel.
Getting in early with this one!

#ThursdayFiveList #GunpowderTreason
Remember, remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot!
We’ve just had bonfire night in the UK, so this seems like a good opportunity to share your songs about fires, fireworks, bonfires, gunpowder and treason!
Mine to follow in the next series of Toots!
Here’s my shuffle play today!

In 1988 Bowie was in need of a boot up the backside, so he teamed up with Reeves Gabrels and old pals Tony and Hunt Sales to put a band together. They needled each other in just the right ways, performed unannounced gigs in small clubs and recorded two albums worth of raw, swaggering, good old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll. A Bowie fan I worked with at the time absolutely hated this, I absolutely love it. The standout is Under the God which is just as relevant now.
This is an album that I’ve previously skipped on Bowie’s journey from Aladdin Sane to the Thin White Duke. It’s R&B/funk aimed with laser sharp cynical precision at the American market, and on reflection it’s pretty darned good and sounds better than the R&B that Bowie released in the 80s. The highlight is probably a spectacular cover of Across the Universe but the bitter and angry Fame written with John Lennon is good too, and also foreshadows 80s Bowie too
This album came out at exactly the wrong time. It’s psychedelic beats and sitar breaks were ten years too late, the indie rock energy and quirky production were ten years too early and the actual release date fell in the middle of a printers strike so the album didn’t get reviewed in Melody Maker and NME. This is a shame, because there’s a lot to enjoy here, with the highlight being the full on rock freak out of Insanely Jealous of You.
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing
This is a remarkable album that rewards repeated listens. It’s complex, layered, playful and chilled at the same time. The samples are eclectic drawing from ambient, jazz, funk and film scores combined in sometimes surprising and unexpected ways. Definitely one to listen to on headphones!

It’s time for #ThursdayFiveList with topic suggested by @yourfutureex being #TheWeirdVideo
I love this inspired bit of low fi sci fi from Floodhounds, one of my favourite Sheffield bands.

Today's #VGMWednesday theme is #AmazingAsia
I’m choosing the soundtrack to the amazing Ghost of Tsushima - the closest game to actually being in a Kurosawa movie.

I recorded a video clip of a section near the start of the game that gives a good idea of the atmosphere

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is a stunning piece of art. In the game you explore an abandoned English village, empty except for the occasional echoes of the people who lived there, their stories playing out as you unravel the mystery. The haunting soundtrack by Jessica Curry adds a huge amount to the atmosphere of melancholy and loss.

The game I wish I had.
I bought a copy of Thieves World back in 1981, but then foolishly sold it so I could buy the Call of Cthulhu boxed set.
I daren't look at how much it's going for on eBay now!
