Oh fuck off. Now my go-to website to convert yaml snippets to json scans the content for "NSFW and other inappropriate content". It just now warned me that my yaml contains atleast one such phrase and required me to change it before "saving or downloading the result".
The text in question that was "inappropriate" where a bunch of placeholder x's (as in the letter x) ment for an placeholder value.
Tech is lowkey really going to shit rn.
Only 2 days left! If you're in the EU, or know people in the EU, share this petition to ban conversion therapy in the whole EU: https://eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#/screen/home
It's important that we do something against what only can be described as torture!
To go through we need atleast one more country to pass the threshold and another ~450k ~262k votes in total, so keep signing! Share it with everyone, your friends, parents, grantparents, neighbors even with your cat/dog/pet lizard!!!!!! We need to get this through to protect LGBTQ+ folks and espc youth in the EU!
Update: 7/7 required countries passed the threshold!! Thanks to #slovenia passing it's required amount, all that is left is to get the 1000k total votes!!
A list of countries that are still in dire need of votes to pass their threshold, the more, the better!!!
If you are from one of these please, please sign this to protect real people!

Gosh it gets worse; Not only do we use fucking SASL for the authentication layer, the protocoll also defines the ability to use two streams over two TCP connections or multiple streams over multiple TCP connections! Or in other words: a ducking logictical nightmare!!!
Just reading through the #xmpp / #jabber core specification bc I initially wanted to write an own jabber <-> matrix bridge (the ones that exist either dont work anymore, aren't maintained or didn't work with my usecase), and I seriously consider just scraping that idea.
It's even more awefull of an protocol than HTTP; no length-prefix of messages, malformed xml, and genneraly try-and-error mentality for most of the protocol.
Yas! It finally works, #rustboot can load elf objects, resolve symbols and execute the the init method contained! Took me longer than I want to admit, mainly bc there was a 4byte bss segment I forgot to map correctly in the linker script that was messing with symbol locations of rustboot.

Nice. #gitea did it; they're now makeing #giteaenterprise where they added already more features. And there's no doubt that they'll continue this path forward, putting more and more effort in the enterprise version and keeping the free version from getting these features via contributions since it would ruin their company.
And best thing is: they already are stealing code. They took stale PR's and put it into the Enterprise version. Thats just disgusting. And unlike gitlab, which EE is not only opensource (i.e. readable), they also have a lot of paid engineers to built their product, unlike gitea, where like 95% of work is done by volunteers, not only now but in the past included. It's espc disgusting for how cheap the features are, like an IP allowlist. Which gets even more sad when you think about what would happen if a volunteer would contribute similar features to the free version. Atleast we have not to guess as it is clearly stated in their contributors guidlines: they have added a clause once they became a company, that they can "politly refuse" any PR by simply not responding. That stinks for me after a tactic of keeping face while not allowing any code that would conflict with the enterprise version.
Im so glad I already switched to #forgejo .
Only thing left is to close up my pr's to gitea as fast as possible to not support this trainwreck anymore.

:boost_ok: I'm in the middle of the search which UI Framework I should use for future projects (web and maybe native mobile as well), and need some simple but not-so-boring app ideas or specs which I can implement to compare frameworks better.
I only know of https://www.realworld.how/docs/intro/, does anyone have other projects like this?

The IP tables command for anyone interested: sudo iptables -t filter -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 5001 --tcp-flags RST RST -j DROP
Replace 5001 with your client-port (eg the side you're implementing TCP in userspace on).
Dont forget to delete it afterwards by using -D instead of -A!
After spending yesterday entirely by re-implementing #tcp in #userspace I now know:
- TCP is weird
- we have the PSH flag that completly makes the data ignore the TCP sending/recieve buffers and directly writes into the application's stream
- ACK can be part of literally any other package; you also can SYN, FIN or PSH data while ACK'ing
- zero-length data packages *technically* exist, but they dont do anything; they dont even wake up the FD when it's in a epoll
- the #linux #kernel is funny: it responds with RST to incomming TCP packets, even on raw sockets; you'll need to drop them via #iptables if you want to implement TCP in userspace
Learned a lot! Now I can go on and create a few tests for #webservers; mainly SYN floodings and so on.
I find it really shitty that the #RightToRepair act is excluding game consoles. It shows how mighty the lobbing still is when it comes to modifing tiny bits of such bills. I mean why does a game console need extra threatment to say a phone? Exactly: none, the exception is only there bc nintendo, sony and microsoft have pulled silently their strings to ensure they don't need to fear that people do with their consoles as they please.
*Sigh* I'm currently finding out that #gnome / #budgie dosn't support different wallpapers per monitor. Even KDE can do this!
The only solutions I tried so far where xwallpaper (straigt up dosnt work), and #hydrapaper (dosnt compile and the project seems nearly dead). If anyone has suggestions what else I can try, please tell me. I really want to have different wallpapers for my monitors.
