"from a global allocation perspective, actually, it’s quite terrible to have everybody have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer, and being used 5% of the time”

the normal legal system acts on behalf of mortals, but the insurance industry are the representatives of the divine. they present you a contract on behalf of their omnipotent and unknowable client, which may include force majeure stipulations against litigation. if you have a large problem, you go to the courts. if you have a galactically huge problem, you go to lloyds of london
the reason the insurance industry is so powerful is that it's the only mechanism by which you can sue God
@jk rollcage 2 added a trials mode where you're just trying to get over a wibblywoobly surface in a void as fast as you can without falling off. It's Good 👍
on steam, theres a lot of games coming out, like thousands of these new games, where if you look in the description it says like, "my computer made me a game. i dont like it. but the computer is blackmailing me to release it, so i have to release it. i dont think its very good. i dont even want to make a game. i dont even like games. i certainly dont like AI, not any more, not since this"
until today, i had never heard of the 1999 PC/PS1 game "Rollcage". it probably has the best name ever of a video game. what an incredible name. you just look at the name of that game, and you can tell exactly what the game is about, exactly what you will be doing in the game, and exactly why the game is fun. you can even predict what the music will sound like
the problem with horror games made in the last 10-15 years is they have too much horror in them. when i was a youngster, horror games were mostly about walking around a large, boring place for hours. i absolutely love it. there would be a sense of impending doom or anxiety layered on top of the experience of course, but usually the place would be so large and boring that those emotions didn't have a chance of disrupting the primary experience of walking round a large, boring place for hours

i have this theory that most tech bro business speak is actually derived from west-coast yoga instructor jargon. if you ever look at a yoga influencer on youtube they are constantly saying things like "fold that back into the next release" and "now let's retrograde this"
i think the Immersive Sim is a cursed genre because it's in the Waluigi Quadrant of game design tradeoffs, as an attempt to take the naive, broad-but-shallow "what about a game where you can do anything" throw-it-all-at-the-wall sandbox setup, bend it into a deep, fractal madness of cross-interaction, and then try to exert any kind of authorial control or plot direction whatsoever. if you sacrifice one of those, you can get GTA or Dwarf Fortress, but insisting on all three can only bring madness
if you really like hot pizza with chilis and stuff, but your friend prefers a mild pizza, you can order a half-and-half which the restaurant will prepare using a technique called binary spice partitioning
it’s 2026 and finally my food is enthusiastically consenting to being eaten

a designer is "someone who writes CSS to ensure the app looks and works differently to every other app". the designer's role is to give the user "an unforgettable experience" and to give their contact at the client company "an unforgettable promotion"
