And, with that, I need to get off the Internet. Have a beautiful day!

I went for a scramble out on the Mogollón rim I thought I might be able to get up on top for a view of the desert in Arizona but there are no trails and the country was extremely rough. I made it about halfway up and did have a nice view east into New Mexico.

Hey Fedi, I need a new coffee cup. I have a nice big one from Tonalá, MX but it turns out that 750ml of coffee every day isn't great for my sleep. Do you do utilitarian pottery or do you know someone cool who does? If so, let me know. I live in the ruins of the USA so, shipping-wise, it'd be better to have someone local. Thanks! #pottery #coffee

Ok, never mind... I have no idea why the disk is write protected. I did manage to figure out how to select the download folder and I can see other System enablers there. I can't find any place to change the write status of the drive in Snow and I checked the permissions on the host system. Maybe I should stick to System 7.5.3?

So I dug up a list of old Mac error codes and it turns out that Error -44 means the disk is write protected. I can probably figure that out but I'm not really sure that just copying the file in will work. Aren't there a bunch of hidden filesystem objects on HFS? Will those be properly created? I guess there's only one way to find out. 😅

Hey Mac68k peeps. I'm trying to get system 7.1.1 running on my LC475. This requires that System Enabler 065 should be installed in the system folder. I can't boot the machine so I figured I'd fire up an emulator (Snow) mount the image there and copy the enabler over. Sadly when I try to copy the file over using the file share option, I get Error -44. I was never a Mac person and I have no idea what I'm doing. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Check out this passage from Fu-Yu. He was a fisherman who was married at 16 who became a farmer after an encounter with an Indian Buddhist monk and achieved enlightenment working in the fields.

The empty hand holds the hoe
Feet walking, riding the water buffalo
The man walks over the bridge
The bridge flows, the water does not flow

Wow!

I stumbled across an old book, The Poetry of Enlightenment, edited by Master Sheng-Yen. It's a collection of poems by Ch'an masters from ancient China. It's one of the best works on Ch'an Buddhism I've read. Poems that deal with the subject of the enlightened mind but are suffused with the Tao. My copy is by Dharma Drum but Shambhala has reissued it. If you're interested in the origins of Zen this is worth checking out.

The more I see this picture, the more it looks like an alien from a 1960s B-Movie.

After the heat of summer, my eggplants are flowering like crazy. I hope they can produce a fall crop!

Now that it's starting to cool off a little, the plants in my garden are coming out of their heat induced torpor and starting to produce again! #gardening #chiles #peppers

Want to know something funny? I feel bad for the billionaires, the tech bros and the other oligarchs. They think that the things that would save them, love, empathy, vulnerability and basic human connection are weaknesses. On top of that, they will never know the satisfaction of working hard. They can't even begin to understand why that might be satisfying. They're just pathetic. It's a shame that, as they self destruct, they're taking the rest of us with them. #grumpy

Feeling tired today. A lot of it comes from lack of sleep (thanks away meet that ended at 10pm) but the whole state of the world is... you know. The fact that a tiny group of sociopaths have seized control of our civilization and are burning it to the ground in the hope that another billion dollars will finally fill that hole where their souls ought to be is weighing on me like a brick. I'm going to make some coffee and then it's back to fighting the good fight. But, for now, bleh. #grumpy

I don't know why his just lying there being fuzzy makes me love him, but it does. #cats #zotz

At a very basic level, peanut butter and refried beans are just variations of the same dish.

This PSA brought to you by lack of sleep.

I was in Bisbee Arizona, walking around it's twisty streets when a guy stepped out of a doorway and said "c'mere, give this a try." It felt like an after school special, but turns out that he roasts coffee and he wanted me to try some espresso. The coffee was fantastic and he just likes pulling shots for strangers. I hung out with him and an old cowboy chatting and getting wired for a good long time. If you like coffee, check him out! #coffee #Arizona #bisbee

To get to the bathroom at the grocery store over in Arizona, you have to go through the break room. All of a sudden, there's a whole bunch of anti union propaganda on the walls. Hopefully this is because the workers are talking about unionizing and the bosses are scared. #union #bashas #arizona #GodBlessTheUnions

Now, I'm thinking about Neuromancer and one the great disappointments of my life is realizing that cyberspace is deeply impractical. It will never be more efficient to wander down a hallway and rummage around in a file cabinet than it would be to just type 'grep'.

@goosey
Honestly, when I picture the Ono-Sendai cyberdeck in my mind, this is it.

@goosey re-tooted an ad for a Hitachi H50 MSX computer. It's well specced with 64k RAM and 16k VRAM. But, it's the industrial design that sets it apart, beautiful streamlined case with a detachable keyboard and that futuristic look that, if you were into anime in the 80s and 90s, is just so appealing. There's one for sale on eBay but at $460, it's too expensive for me. Besides, I have two MSX machines I don't use. Maybe you want to check it out. #retrocomputing #msx
