my cat choosing to puke on the hardwood floor rather than on the carpet is a sign of great respect in his culture

"how can you make jokes at a time like this?"

that dark sense of humor is a load-bearing structure

white women think they gain more from racism than they suffer from misogyny and they're wrong

at intestine level and just stares at him. I'm not sure but her eyes may have turned solid black. Bryant looks at her and gives a weak chuckle.

Looking Bryant in the eyes and with great solemnity, she tells him it's festive and people like festive things (again paraphrasing). watching this on live morning television was like watching a baby gazelle mistakenly wander up to a cheetah.

as long as I live I will never forget watching Martha Stewart fight the urge to kill someone

back in the late 1980's early 1990's Bryant Gumbel and Martha Stewart were doing a segment about ribbon curling.

Bryant looked like he was told "do this or you're fired" and pushed out on to the set. Martha is on point yapping on about the vast intricacies of ribbon curling.

While both are holding scissors in one hand a ribbon in the other, Bryant asks (paraphrasing) "and what 's the point of all of this?" with utter disdain.

Martha stops cold. turns her body to face Bryant, scissors hand

The clouds are low along the ridges,
And sweet's the air with curly smoke
From all my burning bridges."

in Close Encounters of The Third Kind there's a scene where the u.s. military uses branded tractor trailers to move equipment to Devils Tower. one of those had the logo for something called Piggly Wiggly.

being a PNW and Mid-Atlantic kid I assumed Piggly Wiggly was a gag for the movie.

Until I moved to southern VA. I was driving through Farmville (yes, there's a town called Farmville) and there it was. an honest to god Piggly Wiggly. I felt like like I was in a twilight zone episode.
