The AI boom is driven by the belief AI makes companies so productive that they’ll lay off employees and spend the money saved on Anthropic & OpenAI tokens.
Thus requiring hundreds of billions in loans to build data centers to support the demand.
It’s a bubble if any of these assumptions are false.
Investors are selling off chip stocks as if there will never be a data center built again.
A pattern is beginning to form.
Apple reportedly has cut AI token budgets from $300/day to $200/day with some teams falling to $100/day as part of cost cutting.
Given Apple has tens of thousands of engineers on staff, this is a bill that could easily be in the hundreds of millions. Likely unbudgeted at the start of the year.
