Since nobody has observed Mitch McConnell since he collapsed on the floor a few weeks ago, should we assume that he is both alive and dead for the time being?
I mean, I was pretty sure he was an elder lich already.

For the curious, the plant is the joint pine.
Species name Ephedra fragilis.
It contains the highest concentration of ephedrine of any ephedra species. It’s native to southern Spain, Italy and Portugal.
Ephedrine is also known as beta hydroxy methamphetamine.
It works quite well as a cold medicine. The “beta hydroxy” part stops it crossing the blood brain barrier too much.
So it’s not meth.
But take away one teensy little oxygen molecule (this is non trivial and doing so may cause your house to explode. Also it’s very very very naughty and big men with guns might get upset), and it suddenly gets a whole lot more interesting.
My little brother and I started working as volunteers on the tall ship Elissa in Galveston, Texas way back in 1986. I quit sailing professionally a few years later, but he kept at it. Now he has been invited to captain the ship for her next voyage.
I could not be more proud.

Just printed a test page on my Mom's printer from 266 miles away. That was fun.
Does anyone believe the powerful people in the Epstein files have stopped abusing women and girls after Epstein's operation was shut down? Was it shut down? Who is doing the trafficking now?

Because I'm a glutton for punishment, I decided to install a Matrix server on my home server, which is behind a wireguard vpn. This requires a reverse proxy on a separate, public facing server.
I have never run a Matrix server before. Or a client, for that matter. I don't know anything about Matrix, but I figured I could learn the hard way.
It is not going well. Ugh.
Soldiering on.
The goal is to have a mastodon server at my house that does not expose my home network's IP address, and therefore its location.
After having suffered a troll brigade, I don't relish the idea of having my home address that easily discovered.
My initial attempt did not go well. It seems that Mastodon does not like to operate on private IP address ranges. I think it's possible to convince it to do so, but I haven't figured that out yet.
This is not a priority project for me, but I'll get there.
I think I might try to stand up a temporary mastodon instance on my home server, which is behind a wireguard VPN, and use nginx on a public facing $5 VPS to serve the content via reverse proxy.
I wonder if that's possible.
Anyone know of a good post-rapture estate sale? I'm in the market.
Boosts and links appreciated

The Ocean Race Europe just started. With 7 teams, it looks to be an exciting race. If you're not familiar with sailboat racing, this is one to watch.
(I don't actually need help. That was a cry for sympathy ;-)
I'm at home today, so I decided to configure a server as a backup machine for my family's Windows computers. (*help me*)
Therefore, I'm currently booted into Windows so I can configure this machine to use the server for backups as a first test case. I'm installing WSL so I can log into the server and fix a configuration error without having to reboot back into Linux. It's taking *forever*.
Have I mentioned how much I hate Windows recently?
Here's how I created the key. The Debian system is headless, so I can't use a nice GUI. There's some complicated official ways to do this, but that's not what I did. I'm old school sometimes.
First identity the USB disk.
fdisk -l
In my case, it's /dev/sdc
Next, use cfdisk to delete all partitions
cfdisk /dev/sdc
Then, use dd to write the .iso to the disk
dd if=Fedora-Workstation-Live-42-1.1.x86_64.iso of=/dev/sdc
This is the "wrong" way to do it, but it works.
