It's called "single" sign on, why do I have to do it so many times

"Anything that is in the world when you're born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works. Anything that's invented between when you're fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things."

This is brilliant: "Borrowed tuple indexing for HashMap" https://traxys.me/tuple_borrow.html #rust #rustlang

Wow, 100 votes in less than a hour. I don't think I've posted anything before that got that many votes total. I guess peanut butter is a hot-button issue here.

A Scot told me the other day that only people who grew up in America like peanut butter.

Many of the #rust floating-point math functions have a note:

"The precision of this function is non-deterministic. This means it varies by platform, Rust version, and can even differ within the same execution from one invocation to the next."

When would the results vary within an execution between invocations? That is a surprising statement.

actix-tls directly depends on two different versions of http?! https://github.com/actix/actix-net/blob/main/actix-tls/Cargo.toml

#sfc Speaking of the podcast, will it come back (again)?

Never seen a sign like this before

After working so long in C, I really enjoy the freedom in #rust to put my definitions in any order I want, regardless of what refers to what. #rustlang

I know there's some controversy over the plural of "virus" but I'm confident this one is wrong.

@pluralistic I have suspected for a long time that five-paragraph essays were a bad idea, on the basis that I've never been asked to write one anytime in my academic career beyond high school. Glad to see the confirmation in your writing today. https://pluralistic.net/2025/08/11/five-paragraph-essay/

Some people, when confronted with a problem in C++, think:

"I know, I'll write a custom allocator!"

Now they've run out of memory to have more problems. So I guess that's doublegoodplusone?

The nerd in me really wants a new CASIO calculator watch. The last one I had, I lost at a TSA checkpoint long ago.

Quite a comprehensive list.

I got Cory Doctorow's Humble Bundle! I've read some of them but now I get to read all of them! 🎉

Thanks @pluralistic!

Does Jamba Juice feel like a gendered space to other people? I always feel a little weird there, like men don't quite fit in. But it might be in just my own head.

This synthesizer gear is so big and heavy that I'm not sure it's all electronic. It might actually have one of every instrument it can synthesize inside.

"I will never clear the search history on the Chromebook."

Hmm, is it legit for a public school to demand that their students make it easy to spy on them?
