Here's a conceptual programming question for you:

If I have a static site generator, can I make it federated..? :anime_huh:

I mean, I think you can set up an RSS feed so that the feed is updated when the site is updated.

Could that be federated? Tied to a federated platform to handle the dynamic aspects, maybe..?

I ask, because when people were asking about better "web comic" platforms, some of the stuff they asked for were my reason for making "LunaGen" for my landing site for serial episode content.

Could it be federated? Does that even make sense? Would I lose the benefits of a static website? 🤔 :raccoon_cool:

Can't accept universal disease. Like a pandemic? Wow. How quaint.

This is pretty cool. A guy decided to build a replica of the late-1980s TARDIS control room.

That would be pretty high on my list of fun fan projects.

It's interesting that I had to type in the link from the guy's T-shirt, even though I found him on YouTube. Does YT filter out links in video descriptions or something..? That would seem rude, but plausible.

The photo gallery includes both the finished work and some of the construction process, which I think is even more interesting.

I mean just to be clear, I've been around enough squirrely ropes (and extension cords) to step OUT of the rope loop around my feet, regardless of why its there.

#Monsterdon

Nice rope effects there.

For the young 'uns, this is what a "teletype" looks like of about that era (it's not the right model -- my uncle's was a portable that came in a big suitcase -- I don't remember more than that).

I had to include "Adventure". It was one of my first experiences with any kind of computer. I actually played it on a teletype, with one of those 300 baud dial-in modems with the cradle for the handset.

My uncle, who worked as a programmer in the early 1970s brought the teletype to my parents' house, and this was one of the things we did (there was also "Star Trek", which was kind of like Battleship -- you can still find it in Linux distributions to play on the console), and ASCII art.

This was a time when kids did not normally have childhood experiences interacting with a computer -- which seems hard to imagine today, but it was true.

Okay, so people are posting "9 games" they found formative, so I have a wonderful opportunity to date myself here. :muppets_waldorf:

But here we go -- a good span of the history of computer gaming. But not recently.

There is something comforting and quaint about mechanical-sounding old-fashioned synthetic voices, for me now.

No "uncanny valley", I guess?

🤔 :gonzo:

While people are fretting over whether "dwarf planets" (like Pluto, Eris, and Ceres) are "planets", I'd like to just inject, that I think it's awfully weird that we put terrestrial (rocky) planets like Earth, Mars, and Venus in the same category as gas-giants, like Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

I mean... they are VERY different sorts of things.

#Monsterdon

Yep. Totally normal...

Thanks to #Monsterdon I survived that movie. Don't think I would've made it through without y'all's help. Thank you!

#Monsterdon

Does this count as a Muppet movie..?
:kermit:

Screaming Mad George rings a bell, but I don't remember why.

Well. I guess you could say I came to not see the Moon, and that's just what I didn't see...

Weeks of scorching clear skies.

Lunar eclipse comes and there's a big 'ol cloudbank. :welp:

Of course, when I saw this, I started thinking, do they just dump $6.8 million into Felicia Day's bank account..?

What are the bank fees like on a transfer that size?

I've never had to deal with that kind of money before. Do you have to create a special account? Are there extra rules or regulations? I know they flag large transactions sometimes, so I wonder how that goes.

Felicia Day et al raised $6.8 million for "The Guild" reunion movie (apparently to be titled "Ren Faire'd").

That is decent indy-movie money.

And because it's crowd-funding, this does not require them to make it back on sales, let alone ROI -- it's just delivering the product (and rewards, which to be fair, will cost a lot of that).

I credit "The Guild" as one of my inspirations for trying to do a project of my own. Obviously, I am not anywhere near that league, but I find it very cool to see this:

Felicia Day's reunion movie for "The Guild" is not only over 300% funded, they are getting really close to breaking the "Veronica Mars" record for largest movie Kickstart:

All these posts about the sailors suffering on an aircraft carrier that has been on station for too long, due to the US war on Iran seem really absurd to me.

I was under the impression that we had several large aircraft carriers. We can't send another to relieve them..? How does that happen..? Are the others really tied up..? WTH? :welp:

I mean it's far from the only horrible absurdity going on, but I do find it bizarre.
