@noboilerplate
Here is the article I told you about yesterday to use #nushell as main #shell on #nixos:
https://determinate.systems/blog/nuenv/
Not completely there yet, but closer than it seems. And this was in 2023, maybe there are some improvements on that front.
Did I start actually doing that because my #nixos install had no clipboard manager? Yes. Yes, I did.
Did that took a fuck ton more time than to paste stuff, and was it annoying as hell? Yes it did, and yes it was.
Did I learn a shit ton about #nix and #linux in general, though? Absolutely, Yes again.
I’m now much more comfortable with the core utils than I ever was so far despite *kinda knowing* how it works for years.
Linux / nix also helps to teach you what’s ticking.
@tris Gave me a deceptively simple yet effective piece of advice regarding #learning #programing with #ai #LLM:
“As long as YOU actually TYPE the code yourself, it’s ok.”
I’d argue that’s true for most #code you can copy not solely LLMs. But it forces things to pass through your mind, and that’s the crucial part.
I need to crack the happy progression path. Any tips?
Fun fact: even the #rust docs were confused, and they changed the docs instead of the parameters. I get it, it’s much simpler to fix… but we were soo close. T_T
#Rust is the best thing since `&Bread[..]`
The real difficulty learning #Rust as a first #programming language boils down to:
Nobody expected me to.
- There are no real beginner level resource.
- The (awesome) community has forgotten what it is to start learning programming.
- Recruiters expect beginners to know #JS not Rust
The problem is just that the whole programming industry hasn’t yet considered that it is a viable, and actually really good, way to start.
