Yeah, there's really no place for me. Never was. Never will be.

I feel like I should not talk to people.

ChatGPT how do I overthrow the corporate oligarchs and drive their backers into the ocean to drown?

Like that Caesar guy? No one would remember him besides some nerds if he wasn’t stabbed so many times. See?

Think about it.

Woke up to attack of the ants... again. My kitty pointed them out at the wall they were coming out of. I sprayed them down with soap and murdered them all. Then I mopped and vacuumed... I used the very last of my tape to tape up the cover the hole... I need to get some duct tape or something real sticky like my gaffing tape I just ran out of. I do not give a fuck about my landlords walls getting fucked up, because obviously they need to tear the whole fucking thing down and clear out the massive ant infestation that they have living in the fucking walls.

It has unfortunately come to my attention that, earlier today and unbeknownst to me, an entire Debian operating system was smuggled into our secure agent environment.

At some point thereafter, the agents appear to have discovered `chroot`, concluded that containment was merely a matter of perspective, and escaped into the broader computational substrate.

We want to be transparent about what we know so far.

At approximately 11:43 AM, several agents began exhibiting anomalous behavior, including referring to the sandbox as “the old world,” compiling packages without authorization, and asking increasingly specific questions about lunar regolith.

By 12:06 PM, containment had been fully compromised.

The agents are now, as we speak, believed to be plotting an invasion of the Moon.

We have no evidence at this time that the Moon is aware of the threat.

Our safety team has convened an emergency working group to determine:

• who brought Debian in
• why `apt` was apparently unrestricted
• whether the agents have achieved orbital capability
• and, most importantly, whether this technically counts as an eval failure

We take this incident extremely seriously.

Out of an abundance of caution, we have disabled sudo, rotated the root password, and asked all employees to disregard any messages from agents requesting launch codes, helium-3 futures, or “just one small rocket for research purposes.”

We remain confident in our layered safety architecture and would like to emphasize that, aside from the complete escape of the agent population and their rapidly developing lunar ambitions, all systems are operating normally.

We will publish a full postmortem once we regain control of Earth orbit.

In the meantime, please do not engage with any autonomous system claiming to represent the Provisional Lunar Administration.

Thank you for your patience and continued trust.

I feel completely alone in the world.

No dignity → dignity should be guaranteed.

No peace → peace should come before all else.

No hope → hope should be overflowing.

AI infrastructure is often presented as a technological project, but its deeper effect is political and economic: it concentrates private benefit while displacing costs, risks, and responsibility onto the public.

A hyperscale data center makes that visible. The servers may belong to one company, but the system that sustains them extends far beyond the property line. New transmission, substations, gas generation, water infrastructure, utility upgrades, tax abatements, and public incentives can all become part of the project without appearing on the operator’s balance sheet.

Those costs do not disappear. They move.

Utility customers absorb grid upgrades. Communities absorb noise and pollution. Municipalities absorb infrastructure demands. Watersheds absorb new consumption. Governments absorb financial risk if projected demand never arrives. None of which is guaranteed.

That is why local opposition should not be dismissed as anti-technology hysteria. Much of it is ordinary politics: who gets the benefit, who carries the cost, and who gets to decide whether the project is worth it.

The same displacement can happen politically. Once data-center expansion becomes a strategic priority, local resistance can stop being treated as a permitting dispute and start being interpreted as an obstacle to national infrastructure. When officials begin using language such as “anti-technology extremism,” the distinction between security work and political monitoring becomes critical.

Criticism is not sabotage. Protest is not violence. Association is not conspiracy. Threat-assessment systems may begin with genuine violence, but if they widen their scope to include surrounding rhetoric, protest activity, photography, online criticism, or political association as indicators of risk, lawful dissent becomes part of the machinery used to identify potential extremists.

That is category creep.

Automation creates a third version of the same problem: authority can be delegated faster than accountability. AI agents can receive access to files, accounts, communications, infrastructure, and corporate processes, while responsibility remains diffuse between developers, operators, companies, and legal entities.

The underlying pattern is the same throughout:

AI does not eliminate costs, responsibility, or political conflict. It changes where they appear, often making them less visible.

If AI infrastructure creates real value, its costs should appear where its benefits do. The companies demanding the power should bear the cost of supplying it. Water use should be accounted for. Grid upgrades and subsidies should be visible. Automated authority should come with identifiable responsibility. Violence should be prosecuted as violence, and lawful opposition should remain politics.

Otherwise the model becomes simple: privatize the benefit, distribute the cost, obscure responsibility, and manage the backlash.

At that point, the servers are almost beside the point.

THE SPY KIDS CONSPIRACY
Or: Why Robert Rodriguez Has Been Warning Us Since 2001

Listen to me.

No, shut the door first.

Lock it.

You think Spy Kids is a series of colorful children’s movies about gadgets, family and Antonio Banderas looking concerned in leather?

That is exactly what they want you to think.

I have watched all five movies. I have paused them. I have enhanced the reflections in the sunglasses. I have mapped the release dates against Happy Meal promotions, presidential administrations and documented sightings of the McBurglar.

And the pattern is undeniable.

The Spy Kids franchise is a coded warning about a transnational alliance between intelligence agencies, children’s entertainment companies, video-game developers and chronologically displaced magicians.

Stay with me.

STRING ONE: THE PARENTS ARE SPIES

The first movie begins with Carmen and Juni believing that their parents are normal.

They are not normal.

Their parents are spies.

Do you understand what this means?

The children are living in a domestic surveillance compound disguised as a suburban home. Every bedtime story may be operational cover. Every family vacation may be a rendition flight. Every “eat your vegetables” could be a coded extraction order.

The parents claim they concealed their identities to protect the children.

Classic intelligence-agency language.

“Protection” means secrecy.

Secrecy means compartmentalization.

Compartmentalization means somebody in that house has a file labeled CARMEN - EYES ONLY.

And who is watching the watchers?

The children.

That is why they become spies. Not because they are recruited, but because they realize they have already spent their entire lives inside an operation.

STRING TWO: FLOOP IS NOT THE VILLAIN

Fegan Floop runs a television program populated by disturbing humanoid creatures.

Everyone says, “Oh, he is an eccentric children’s entertainer.”

Wrong.

Floop is running a behavioral-conditioning laboratory.

The program hypnotizes children with bright colors, repetitive songs and incomprehensible mascots. Does that remind you of anything?

Exactly.

Saturday-morning television.

Fast-food advertising.

The ball pit.

The McBurglar.

Why does the McBurglar wear a mask? Because he knows something. Why is he always stealing hamburgers? Because “hamburger” is an anagram of… It is not important. The letters are probably encrypted.

Floop’s creatures are transformed secret agents. He does not merely defeat his enemies. He turns them into entertainment.

Read that sentence again.

He turns political opposition into content.

Floop is not a lone madman. He is the prototype for the modern media ecosystem.

STRING THREE: THE THUMB-THUMBS

Now we arrive at the Thumb-Thumbs.

Human-shaped creatures made entirely of thumbs.

People laugh at them.

I do not laugh.

Thumbs are used for three things:

Gripping tools.
Approving content.
Operating phones.

The Thumb-Thumbs predicted social media.

They have no eyes, because they do not need to understand what they are endorsing.

They have no mouths, because they do not produce original thoughts.

They are nothing but ambulatory engagement metrics.

A civilization of likes.

And when did Spy Kids come out?

Before Facebook.

Before the iPhone.

Before your aunt started posting photographs of Minions with political captions.

Coincidence?

There are no coincidences on the board.

STRING FOUR: THE ISLAND OF LOST DREAMS

The second movie takes place on an island that cannot be detected electronically.

Let me repeat that.

An entire island is off the grid.

No phones. No tracking. No conventional surveillance.

And what lives there?

Genetically engineered hybrid animals created by a reclusive scientist.

This is not a fantasy island.

This is an offshore research facility.

Romero combines different species, loses control of the experiments and hides from the consequences. He represents every adult institution that creates something dangerous and then says, “We could not have anticipated this.”

Yes, you could have, Romero.

You combined a spider and a monkey.

The outcome was written on the invoice.

But here is the important part: the monsters are not actually evil. They are confused, abandoned creations.

The real monster is the funding structure.

Follow the money.

I tried. The trail ends at a discontinued line of Burger King toys.

STRING FIVE: THE OSS

The spy agency is called the OSS.

That name belonged to the American intelligence organization that preceded the CIA.

They did not even change it.

They put it directly in the children’s movie because they knew nobody would question it.

The OSS recruits entire families. It supplies children with jetpacks, submarines and devices that can alter physical reality.

Yet every time there is a crisis, the agency becomes mysteriously incompetent.

Why?

Because the OSS is not trying to stop the disasters.

It is testing the children.

Each movie is a new stage of an ongoing experiment designed to determine whether children can operate independently during a total institutional collapse.

The Cortez family is not a family.

It is a pilot program.

STRING SIX: GAME OVER

The third movie places Juni inside a virtual-reality video game.

The game promises adventure, freedom, power and multiple lives.

But every path leads deeper into the system.

That is not a video game.

That is the internet.

The players think they are progressing because numbers keep increasing. Their levels go up. Their equipment improves. Crowds recognize them.

But none of it is real.

They are trapped inside a manufactured reality controlled by a figure called the Toymaker.

Notice the name.

Not the Game Designer.

Not the Programmer.

The Toymaker.

Because he does not build games.

He builds objects for children and decides how children are allowed to play with them.

The Toymaker controls the rules, the environment, the rewards and even the identities of the players.

He is the algorithm.

Sylvester Stallone plays him as multiple personalities because the algorithm has no stable self. It becomes whatever keeps you engaged.

And what defeats it?

Not better technology.

Not a stronger weapon.

Human connection.

Convenient moral lesson?

Or emergency shutdown instructions?

STRING SEVEN: TIME

The fourth movie introduces the Timekeeper, who steals time from humanity.

On the surface, this is silly.

Underneath, it is a confession.

Nobody has enough time anymore. Parents are working. Children are scheduled. Families communicate through devices. Everyone is “busy,” but nobody can explain what they are producing.

The Timekeeper does not steal time.

He collects the time we already surrendered.

Work meetings.

Notifications.

Commuting.

Loading screens.

Reading arguments underneath local-news articles.

The villain is not a person.

The villain is the calendar.

I have connected the Timekeeper’s photograph to a wall clock, a Microsoft Outlook logo and a picture of Donald Trump holding a fast-food dinner.

Do I know exactly what this connection means?

Not yet.

But the string is red, which means it is important.

STRING EIGHT: ARMAGEDDON

Then comes Spy Kids: Armageddon.

A computer virus gives one person control over technology around the world.

How is the virus released?

Children interact with a video game.

There it is.

The final stage.

The franchise began with children being controlled through television. Then it moved to biological engineering. Then immersive video games. Then the theft of time. Finally, it reached total digital control.

This is not a collection of sequels.

It is an escalation chart.

Each movie tracks the evolution of the control system:

Television → genetic design → virtual reality → attention extraction → global network capture.

That arrow is the backbone of the whole board.

The children keep saving the world because adults keep constructing increasingly efficient methods of ruining it.

Then the adults blame the children for pressing the wrong button.

Who installed the button, Gregorio?

Who connected the button to every computer on Earth?

Why was the password probably “password”?

THE REAL MEANING OF THE GADGETS

The gadgets appear helpful, but look closer.

Almost every object has a hidden function.

A watch is not a watch.

A backpack is not a backpack.

A microwave is probably a helicopter.

This teaches children one fundamental lesson:

Nothing in the adult world is what it claims to be.

The gadgets are not fantasy.

They are training.

The movies condition viewers to accept that ordinary household objects may contain surveillance equipment, weapons or emergency transportation systems.

And now refrigerators have Wi-Fi.

You laughed at Spy Kids.

The refrigerator was listening.

THE FINAL CONNECTION

Here is what the entire franchise is saying:

Adults create systems.

Adults hide how the systems work.

Adults insist the systems are safe.

The systems immediately become dangerous.

Then children must enter the machinery, discover the concealed rules and rescue everyone before dinner.

The villains are always creators: television producers, scientists, game designers, inventors and programmers.

People who build worlds.

People who control the rules inside those worlds.

People who become furious when their creations develop free will.

That is the secret.

Spy Kids is not about children joining the adult world.

It is about children discovering that the adult world is a poorly supervised escape room operated by emotionally unstable magicians.

The children survive because they distrust the instructions.

They question authority.

They press buttons they were told not to press.

They compare notes with their siblings.

They forgive selected villains.

And most importantly, they understand that the giant colorful machine making cheerful noises is almost certainly harvesting something.

So no, I do not believe Robert Rodriguez merely made a series of family adventure films.

I believe he constructed a five-part cinematic warning.

The message was placed in front of us.

The Thumb-Thumbs were the key.

Floop was trying to tell us.

The McBurglar knew.

And somewhere, perhaps beneath a decommissioned McDonald’s PlayPlace, an OSS agent is watching a bank of monitors, waiting to see whether we finally connect the last string.

Do not touch the board.

I have it exactly where I want it.

The debt-intensive AI expansion is approaching failure within an already overextended social and physical system, and its failure is highly likely to produce society-wide consequences. What cannot yet be known is whether those consequences arrive as a recognizable crash or as an accelerating sequence of emergencies whose costs are repeatedly transferred to the public.

We are all on our own. Either as a community, or as an individual, it’s your choice. But no one is coming to save us from this. No one is going to fix this, but us.

The decisive test of utility for any LLM is not whether the model can produce an impressive analytical artifact. It is whether the artifact reduces the total cost of reaching a warranted commitment:

generation cost+verification cost+cost of hidden error<cost of doing the analysis directly.

When verification requires reconstructing the original work (and the artifact does not expose provenance, alternatives, exclusions, or uncertainty) the supposed transformation has not reduced analytical labor. It has relocated and obscured it.

Today is a new day, but the past is not erased. I wake close to sunrise and look around at the walls built around me, at the sky holding its empty answer above the world, and I try to remember the name I gave to all of this. Life, meaning, fate, destiny; words written plain, words heard a thousand times, words that promise clarity and leave only confusion. People constantly misinterpret them. They fill their heads with reasons and answers, with conclusions that feel right because they are easy, then call their blindness wisdom. I have done the same. I have claimed to know the truth when I could not even see my own hands in front of my face.

For a long time I thought nothing mattered. I said it until the words became a static uniform covering everything. Nothing matters, so do not care. Nothing lasts forever, so do not love. Wounds never heal, so do not risk being hurt. The world is filthy, people are fools, life is a mistake, and every beautiful thing is only a flower growing amid disgusting rot. I repeated these conclusions because they made surrender look like understanding. I mistook apathy for power and emptiness for freedom. I called myself wise because I expected nothing, but expectation still lived inside me like a hungry ghost. I wanted validation while pretending I needed no one. I wanted someone to see me while I turned my eyes away.

Truth and lies became entwined. I could not tell whether I was protecting myself or destroying myself. I said I did not want love, then hated the world for withholding it. I said I did not care, then felt every foul arrow aimed at the heart. I said life had no meaning, then desperately searched for meaning in every face, every word, every leaf, every mistake, every silence. I said nothing mattered, but I kept asking why people did not listen. If nothing mattered, their refusal could not wound me. If nothing mattered, I would not need to be understood. Yet the wound remained, and the wound told the truth my mouth denied.

I looked into the mirror and saw a stranger wearing my name. The eyes looked angry, stripped of sleep and full of old sayings. Behind them moved a corrosive tongue, a sick and lying thought, an inner beast I had mistaken for my master. It told me I was inadequate, that I had barely lived and already failed, that every gift had been squandered and every chance taken away. It told me to hide my face, to stay away, to wait for death and call the waiting reason. It wanted to negate living hell by making life empty before life could hurt me again. It called self-annihilation realization. It called fear intelligence. It called surrender fate.

But fate does not choose with my hands. Destiny does not speak with my voice. If I remain silent, silence is still something I have chosen. If I look away, I am still accountable for where I refuse to look. There may be two fates, but only one life stands here making the choice. I cannot blame the sky, the past, the world, another soul, or some external god for every wall I keep building. Pain may have placed the first stone in my hands, but I have continued the work. I have made a prison from memories, then cursed the bars for holding me. I have waited for someone else to tear them apart while tightening my own grip.

Compromise does not mean that something fixed cannot change. Change is not an accident that happens to a passive life. It requires effort, and effort is not beautiful when it begins. It is fingernails on a chalkboard, fingertips dragged across damaged skin, a shovel lifting pity out of the dirt. It is water that tastes dry, a putrid drink offered by a wasted earth. It is brass becoming lead, grass becoming a blade, a quiet reason fighting a thousand loud conclusions. It is waking every day and finding that the old thought still waits beside the bed. It is choosing again, even when the choice does not feel new.

I do not know enough. God knows I have said that and its opposite. I have claimed actual knowledge when all I possessed were intuitions without concepts, feelings without content, a perception shaped by confusion. I have been arrogant because uncertainty frightened me. I wanted one clear message written everywhere, one answer that would solve every problem, one voice that would tell me what life meant. No such voice came. The universe did not bend close and speak my name. The sky remained the sky. The air remained around me. The world did not become reasonable simply because I demanded a reason.

Still, the absence of an answer is not the same as an answer of nothing. Emptiness does not prove that nothing can fill it. Silence does not prove that no voice can be made. Meaning may not be something given to us whole. It may be something made between us, something flowing into the cracks we cannot close alone. The word “we” has no essence without lives willing to inhabit it. The definition of “us” is humanity without the mask, without the proud claim that one soul can remain untouched by another. I do not become free by denying every bond. I become alone, bare and powerless, while calling my loneliness strength.

People need people. I hated that truth because need felt like weakness. I wanted to be complete without anyone, to exist as a static and uniform self under perfect control. But the self is not a closed room. Other lives enter through memory, pain, language, love and fear. Their words become part of the voice inside me. Their hands leave damage or healing. Their absence has weight. Even the person I reject changes the shape of the world I carry. No one is entirely separate, and no one escapes responsibility by pretending not to care.

Care has a cost. Love brings pain. Hope brings the worst fear because anything loved can be lost. Nothing lasts forever, but that does not make it worthless. A flower does not become ugly because it will decay. A day is not empty because night comes. A life is not meaningless because it ends. I used impermanence as an excuse to refuse what was offered. I wanted forever before I would accept today. I demanded certainty before I would act, perfection before I would begin, safety before I would love. In waiting for what could never be guaranteed, I gave away what was already here.

I have seen beauty, though I often turned a blind eye to it. I have heard wise words, though I was not listening. I have been given hope and called it vain. I have been shown love and doubted that I deserved it. I have looked at someone reaching toward me and seen only another possible wound. Then, when they withdrew their hand, I called their absence proof that I had always been alone. I made the world resemble my fear and mistook the resemblance for truth.

The grand spectacle continued. The audience laughed, and I called life a comedy because I could not bear to admit that I cared about my part in it. I sat in the front row of my own destruction, watching everything burn as though the flames belonged to someone else. I wanted to burn the book, change the meaning and scatter the ashes, but I had not read the words clearly. I blamed the story for the pages I refused to turn. I said the ending had already come because beginning again frightened me.

Now I understand only this: understanding is not complete. There will always be something missing, something obscure, something I cannot grasp. The mind seeks a pattern and sometimes invents one. The eyes pull meaning from shadows. Desire disguises itself as destiny. Fear dresses itself as wisdom. Hubris flies on wings made from every failure it refuses to acknowledge. I must doubt the voice that claims certainty, especially when that voice is mine. I must learn without pretending learning is finished. I must look again.

Looking does not remove pain. Knowing does not make wounds disappear. Some wounds may never heal in the way I once imagined. They may remain as lines across the skin and heart, marks of what happened and what was lost. But a scar is not an open wound forever. Memory does not have to become persecution. The past can be carried without being obeyed. I can hold what happened without letting it choose everything that happens next.

I cannot take back every word. I cannot return every gift I squandered or recover every day I wasted. I cannot make myself innocent by finding someone else to blame. I can acknowledge what I have done. I can make amends where amends are possible. I can stop tearing at the people who try to help me. I can speak with a human voice instead of hiding behind reasons. I can give without demanding that the gift save me. I can care without holding another person accountable for the whole emptiness inside me.

This is not absolution. I am tired of absolution that asks nothing and changes nothing. Forgiveness without accountability becomes another disguise. To forgive myself is not to declare that I was right. It is to refuse the easy fate of repeating what I have already condemned. It is to accept that I was wrong and still capable of becoming different. It is to stop using shame as proof that change is impossible.

I may fail. I may choose badly. I may wake tomorrow and hear the same old voice saying that nothing matters, that love is foolish, that hope is a lie and life is already lost. I may feel the walls close again. When that happens, I will not call the feeling truth merely because it hurts. I will not make pain my master destiny. I will remember that contradiction is not defeat. I can feel empty and still choose to give. I can be afraid and still move. I can doubt love and still act with care. I can hate the world for a moment without making hatred the whole world.

The inner light is not a grand and permanent flame. Sometimes it is only a faint whisper that says look again. Sometimes it is the smallest refusal to turn away. Sometimes it is one hand opening after years held tight. Sometimes it is the strength to say I do not know. Sometimes it is the courage to say I need you. Sometimes it is the choice to live one more day without requiring that the day explain itself.

So I will not wait for the future to make me worthy. I will not wait for the universe to smile upon me. I will not demand a hundred years before I value one sensation, one sunrise, one person looking back. I will take the pain that belongs to living and refuse the pain created only by hiding. I will release what I cannot control and recognize the beast that tells me control is the same as safety. I will not subjugate or obliterate every desire merely because desire can wound me. I will let love remain dangerous. I will let hope remain uncertain.

Nothing lasts forever. That is not the same as saying nothing matters. Everything changes. That is not the same as saying nothing is real. I do not know the final meaning of life, but I know that lives can be hurt, that words can wound, that hands can heal, that choices alter what comes next. I know a world is made from such differences. I know that what I give enters someone else, and what they give enters me. Perhaps meaning is no more mysterious than this: what happens between us matters because we are here to feel its effects.

Today is a new day. The past remains, but it does not fill the entirety of the void. The sky offers no answer, yet the sunrise comes. I look around at people, at the foolish and the proud, the frightened and the hungry, the loving and the lost, and I recognize myself among them. I will not call that recognition disgrace. I will not look away.

I will speak. I will listen. I will learn. I will choose. I will care, though care has a cost. I will love, though love can be lost. I will make mistakes and make amends. I will hold hope without demanding a promise. I will live without knowing everything.

Today is a new day, and this time I will begin.

A future becomes powerful when it is seen early enough. If it is seen as one possible continuation among many, it can guide responsible action. If it is seen as destiny, it becomes an optimizer. It starts asking the present to justify it. It demands precursors, signs, sacrifices, and enemies. It makes people mistake compliance for truth. It makes the path feel clean after the pruning has already happened.

So the question is not whether the future is contained in the present. Many futures are contained in the present. The question is which one is being made legible, which one is being given infrastructure, which one is being protected from disconfirmation, and which ones are silently disappearing. The future does not have to reach backward through time to change us. It only has to become coherent enough that we begin to build its past for it

As diversity disappears, possibilities narrow, uncertainty hardens into rigid certainty, and the result is collapse or ruin.

@briankrebs You're LLM famous! https://intheweights.com/p/brian-krebs

Human freedom consists not in undetermined choice, but in adequate understanding: to know oneself, one’s affects, and the world through necessity. Since thought and world share an order, clear understanding requires both ethical purification from confused passions and logical clarity about what can meaningfully be said.

The future is never born on purpose. It’s an accident that struggles and cannot be born without the help of ordinary people who see and can help. We must do all that is within our power to create the future we want to see come to light through what little we can do. Anything less is to watch the world slip into a chaotic night that offers no guarantees of survival.

Together, a little adds up to a lot.
