Edition 0 is now in the Bookhouse Institute Archive.

Am off out to start releasing the rest into the wild.

If you need a website link, then head on over to:

Introducing the Bookhouse Institute MicroHunt 003.

The Institute will be dropping little books around the UK over the next little while.

If you're luck enough to find one, and you're clever enough to solve the puzzles inside, it'll lead you to something you can hang on your wall. Plus, bragging rights.

Note: Librarians are your friends. They're like the internet... but better.

Probably good to have an #introduction of sorts.

Hello there!

I run a small organisation (of one) which designs and writes puzzle and treasure hunts and hides them in books in exchange for joy and dopamine. I also design and make the treasures, occasionally with support from actual craft experts.

I also maintain a small #library of armchair treasure hunts, text games, Ergodic literature, other unusual books which is growing all the time.

On top of that, I spend a lot of time researching the above and maintaining a permanent #archive of these things to support my creative process.

I have a small #garden that I spend a lot of time in, making sure there’s pretty flowers and the occasional food to eat. It is trying to be a wildlife haven.

Other important things in my life: good music, damn fine coffee, FOSS / open source, libraries, twin peaks, #retrogames, books books books, exploring the UK wilds and hiking, woodworking, finding out interesting historical things.

@rysiek imagine my surprise when your name cropped up in a Guardian article.

50% mockup done. Am hoping for the other 50% complete today / tomorrow.

Then print Edition 0 for the Institute Archive and start releasing them into the wild.

Working on a little treasure hunt that I’m hiding in a little book. Gonna leave copies of these little books dotted around the UK.

“ Never play to the gallery… Never work for other people in what you do. Always remember that the reason that you initially started working was that there was something inside yourself that you felt that if you could manifest in some way, you would understand more about yourself and how you co-exist with the rest of society… I think it’s terribly dangerous for an artist to fulfil other people’s expectations.”

#bookbinders of Mastodon! Where are you? I want to follow you.

(Please RT, thanks)

Thought for the day:

If anything, modern humans most emergent quality is their inability to deal with any serious problem. They just going to pretend it doesn't exist until it kills them. And someone will try to profit from it.

Cannot upload an avatar to my Pixelfed account. Error: “the avatar field is required”. I’m using the webapp on latest iOS. I have uploaded an avatar. It’s frustrating.

Dolly Parton is one of the Saints of the Bookhouse. Her voice shall echo from the eaves today, as a star so bright has dimmed and gone out.

It does mean that the Archivist and the Librarian have to work together.

The Institute has started building a small, private research library.

I think about this article by @ajroach42 often.

Sorry I haven’t texted back. The old world is dying, the new one is struggling to be born, and apparently *now* is the time of monsters.

People seem to be calling the choose your own adventure / fighting fantasy style books “solo adventure RPG gamebooks” nowadays.

And I’m over here calling them “turn-to-page-whatever books”.

Going to be spending some time re-jigging my block words. For the protection of the Institute’s sanity.
