@stuartb

do you have something like primaries in the uk?

(in the usa the parties choose their candidates for the upcoming general elections, in the spring)

turnout is always abysmal

then you see constant complaints the candidates suck

gee i wonder why

these dildos expect perfection to descend from the heavens without them lifting a single fucking finger. they exist to just whine and don't truly care about anything. except whining

if you don't vote: you're not a real leftist

This is so sad

Somewhere in #Belgrade some people have taken down a poster of #Vučić #Putin and #Xi and started bashing in Vučić's face after Vučić's recent loss

It's sad because they aren't making much headway, it's a very sturdy poster. They need a chainsaw or a blowtorch

😂

and unlike politicians, she didn’t need a teleprompter or to look at her notes! What a wonderful lassie. Go girls go!

If you spend any real time on Mastodon, you will discover that some people take their #AltText very seriously indeed, and some may wonder "Why?".

Mastodon tries to be a place for all people, where everyone can have a voice, connect with like-minded people, and catch up on news and current events, regardless of ability. There are many vision impaired people who follow me now, and I try to make sure that my #AltText serves it's intended purposes.

Here is my approach.
Imagine you are describing the image to a friend with perfect eyesight, but is sitting out of view of the picture, like a friend on the other side of your desk who can't see the screen. Tell them the point of the picture, why it's there, what it means in context to the toot.

This example photo may have alt text as follows: A colour photograph of a black Steinway Grand Piano, with lid open and keyboard of black and white keys exposed. The branding "Steinway & Sons" can be seen written in gold above the keys and on the side of the piano which sits on gold coloured wheels, off-centre in the photo to the right, upon a red wood herring bone patterned floor. A white cornice separates the floor from the grey wall behind the piano which only takes up about one third of the entire frame of the photo.

This kind of description is overkill if none of that description is relevant to the original toot, especially if you were explaining this toot to a sighted friend.

For what it's worth. ❤️

Vance on gas prices: They skyrocket every time some tinpot dictator decides to throw a tantrum.

He is right! Trump attacked Iran and gas prices went up.

What's this?

Just Brazilians celebrating defeating #fascism

(nota bene: fascism is never truly defeated. but if you keep fighting, it gets easier. it only wins when you stop fighting. and of course you celebrate your wins when you can, because life has joy)

you're next #USA. you better fucking #vote you motherfuckers

The term 'rando' is an homage to Ayn Rand, the patron saint of reply guys.

@oz1tmm @QasimRashid

yes but cynicism is just a doorway to acceptance of the unacceptable

you fight. you always fight. the malice does not matter. if we yield simply because malice exists, that is called premature capitulation. that only aids fascism

speak not of toxic positivity, but realistic hope

and never speak of defeatism and negativity

you only aid the enemy when you do

@QasimRashid Brazilian here. A lot of people thought it was already lost after the first round and we were going to be fucked, but everyone went to the streets and to social networks like crazy. We all united, the young and the elderly, the students and the workers. For 3 weeks, we ceased all our internal struggles among the leftists and we acted as a single organism. Together, we did what was believed to be impossible, because it never happened before.

You can do it too!

My fellow Americans: let's not fumble this.

I was going to vote for the democrat, but then I found out that Obama disrespected the decor at Cheesecake Factory.
